PostPosted: 18:59 - 04 Nov 2017    Post subject: Tax refund after selling a bike? Reply with quote

Evening all

So I'v sold one of my bikes today and i pay for the tax outright for the year and the bike has 6 months left on the tax which i paid for in cash in my local post office (i still have the receipt) i will be posting the logbook off tomorrow that has obviously been signed over to the new keeper but i can't find any info on how i get a refund on the remaining tax? everything i have seen is all on direct debit

Anyone know?

Many thanks!

It's automatic. They'll send it through the post so long as you have the right address on the V5

He can't make a declaration for a bike he doesn't own.

As already said, when they process the change of ownership the VED refund is done at same time.

Not according to the DVLA https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-refund ..
Quote:
You’ll automatically get a refund cheque for any full months left on your vehicle tax. The refund is calculated from the date DVLA gets your information. The cheque is sent to the name and address on the vehicle log book.
