Hi,

I'm planning to buy a bike and have two bikes in consideration. One is Yamaha FZ-07 and the other is Ducati 797. I have driven 250cc bikes back at home, but, this is my first time driving in US. Any suggestions are appreciated but, it should be a naked bike.

Update:

A dealer is offering Ducati 797 for $7300 (MSRP $9250), is it worth the price?.

Thank you.

I usually recommend a '98 R1.

My bad, I'm considering to get a 650-800cc naked bike but couldn't decide which one to buy. After doing some research I have landed on two options Yamaha Fz-07 and Ducati 797. But l'm looking for a experienced rider's advice before making the purchase. I'm more inclined towards Ducati as it looks way cool than the Yamaha. But anyway, if there are any other bikes that I should consider buying please let me know. And, I have 4 years of driving experience but most of it with a 250cc bike.

Problem with Ducati's are you're paying for the badge. I think most FZ/MT-07 owners want an MT-09 after they've tried one.

Any particular part of the USA, I'd imagine downtown New York would favour a different bike to the back roads of Arkansas.

I like my MT-07.

Enough power for a noob, looks good, sounds pretty good ( I have the akrapovic system), finish seems fine after a few thousand miles of year round commuting duties. Wasn't mocked by the scary bikers at the BBQ.

Suspension is budget but not terrible. Small tank, no convenient lugguage options and seat is a bit hard, but I did a 400 mile run on mine in one go with no issues. No wind protection to speak of, but not an issue below 85mph (private road, officer) or so.

If you want a toy or a commuter, I'd recommend it basically. Buy second hand in case you fancy a change early on.

Thanks for your opinion. I don't go for long rides on the bike, it's just for some fun on weekends. I really miss riding a bike, this bike is just to fill that space.

But wow, no one is recommending the Ducati, I thought everyone would recommend Ducati over Yamaha. Maybe, it's not worth the money.

Similar spec, similar power, similar weight, similar styling, similar (?) finish and reliability, nearly £2000 more...

You'd have to really want the Ducati badge I reckon.

Dunno, I don't do silly 'murican money and I've no idea what an MT-07 costs in the US either. Seriously though, if that's the bike you want and can afford one, then $7300 is a bargain and you should buy one immediately.

All I'm just saying I personally wouldn't pay much of a premium at all for the Ducati over the MT-07.

Either way I'd buy one second hand.

Yeah, I was considering to get second hand but, there are no pre-owned MT-07 or 797 within 200 miles radius.
