I think perhaps he just needed an excuse to jump ship.

At first I tried to ignore it since there was a similar media attack campaign aimed at Labour's 'chaos' after Corbyn got in, but it seems the Tory machine really is unravelling as fantastically as the papers say.

Ever since the Brexit result forced the Tories to do proper governmenty things that governments are meant to do, it seems nobody is quite so keen to sit on the gravy train any more.
