If the Unit is to be use outside make sure it has the correct IP number which denotes it is at least splash proof.
Dedicated sockets and plugs can be fitted to facilitate quick connection/disconnection.

I use a Ctec unit with an IP number of 65 , which means Dust tight and proof against a jet of water , in other words reasonably waterproof.

I stick the end of a single extension lead and my optimiser in one of these https://www.festive-lights.com/dribox-weatherproof-connection-box?gclid=Cj0KCQjwvuDPBRDnARIsAGhuAmYlmVYzAjWYu_wInoD1xelsuPpH59gkYPbIETNUeu_D4JsMGWXHzjwaAo57EALw_wcB#217=121

Just be careful condensation doesn't build up under the container in cold weather. Did it with a car charger years ago, came out in the morning to a melted charger and a popped fuse.

I used to use an Optimate extension lead with the Optimate in the house and the lead going out of a narrow upper ground floor window to the bike.

Mine is currently resting on the hugger with the extension reel wedged in there. Bike has a cover on.

Why you need it, if it's only left for a few days.... A good bike battery should last months with no usage.

Certainly my Versys battery still starts the bike after a few months of non use Embarassed

Yuasa info:

Quote:
Low state-of-charge can be caused by short trips that aren’t long enough for the vehicle’s charging system to recharge the battery. Engine operation of less than 15 or 20 miles and occasional use of a vehicle only a couple of times per week may not keep the battery charged enough to start the engine.

To keep the battery’s capacity high enough to operate the starter it will have to be charged with a battery charger when the vehicle is not in use—about once per month for a Conventional battery depending on temperature. An AGM battery will discharge at a slower rate than a Conventional battery and does not need to be recharged as often.

Colder storage temperatures are best for long-term storage. For example, an AGM battery stored at 0ºC holds 90% of its capacity for about 6 months. The same battery stored at 40ºC loses 50% of its capacity in 4 months. On-board computers, clocks and other accessories can also drain a battery over time.
