as i now have to filter down the M2 on occasion, i do keep an eye out for any bikers coming up behind me and i will pull across to let them pass.

on several occasion they will stick their right leg out.

I assume as i'm a nice chap this is a means to say thanks with having to take your hands off the bar.

or is it them gesturing for me to move over as in kicking me out of the way ?

Yeah they're just saying thanks. I tend to stick my left hand up.
Good on your for moving over too, I've had people stop before inbetween two lanes because they don't think there's a gap.

A restricted fart can be released by shaking a leg.

Seen it done in that Europe where they overtake on the left. A right hand wave would mean lifting off the throttle, so a leg wave it is. Not so common over here because a left hand gesture is easier.

Aye, sticking your leg out can also replace a Mass Churchill Event when meeting an oncoming line of bikes.

It's the normal way to say thank you or hello when overtaking on the continent. Since you overtake on the left and you can't easily wave with your right hand on the throttle, sticking out a right leg will do.

I do it myself these days, if I need to thank someone on the right.

to a lot of car drivers, if they're on the left i stick my left hand out. If they're on the right i stick my right leg out

if both left and right have moved over for me to filter i stick both left hand and right leg out Laughing

Sadly I doubt your average cager would realise a right leg wave was a 'thank you' - I think they'd be more likely to interpret it as some sort of nasty aggressive biker gesture

I say thank you by not scraping my bar end down the side of the car...

Only joking - I wave. 👍

a lot of the time its when we are filtering between two lanes of traffic and sometimes the first gap is on the right.

So it all sort of makes sense

What about nodding?

Does anyone nod and when and for what?
And how much 'emotion' do you put into the nod? (if you even nod of course).

We use the 'right leg' gesture on our ride outs to tell the biker behind it is safe to overtake if they can't see around the bend in front.......

Leg waving is also useful at this time of year when you're wrist deep in muff.

In racing it signifies you're leaving the racing line or entering the pits.

Same here, although I never trust it still, some peoples version of a safe overtake is different to mine Shocked

Leg thank-yous/gestures are used extensively on the A13 - some riders pull to the side of a lane and drop a leg to signal another rider they're letting them past - or thank-you to other bikes/cars/lorries.

They're contextual - we all know what it means when it happens.

Interesting question, something that the real bikers nod facebook group can answer maybe.

*nods*
