Hi, new to the forum.
My ts50x starts right up and will idle but going up the road it boggs down a bit and then within 1/4 mile just dies like the ignition has been turned off, then after about 5mins it will start but then do the same again (I recently put a new standard piston and rings in as bike would not start, this did the trick), checked spark plug and that looks dry (the arm is a beige colour), any suggestions please, I'm not technically minded, so if poss, layman's terms lol.... |

Could be loads of things, but my first thoughts would be fuel starvation.
When it cuts out, if you open the barb float bowl drain screw, how much fuel comes out? What's the flow like from the tank to the carb? ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Has a good flow to carb from what I can see, Ill check the bowl screw next time I'm on it and it stops, but what you say makes sense, as it starts again, so assume fuel gets back in when stopped for a few minutes and the cycle repeats What would cause starvation like that? |

Blocked fuel filter, some have them inside the tap in the tank, some inline and some have a bit of gauze in the fuel pipe inlet of the carb. Could also be a partially blocked float jet, or even a blocked fuel tank breather causing a vacuum.
My first job would be to strip and clean the carb. I would also fit a clear inline fuel filter so you can keep an eye on flow and how much crap is entering the carb from a 30 year old tank. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Thanks to all for pointing me in the right direction.
I double checked flow from tank and it had good flow but this time I let it run for about 10 seconds into a can, it then just stopped, so I repeated this and it did it again. I then turned fuel tap to reserve position and it ran and ran without stopping. Took it for a drive and did not have the previous fault. So looks like the ON position is getting blocked, have ordered a new tap!! Happy days.... |
