So in the summer 3 times in a row as soon as I would have a quick ride without having my neck fully covered I would get a pretty severe flu/virus which would kill my throat for a week or two.

I always see pricks in america riding in a wife beater and nothing else no problem, I wonder is this just me or the cold weather here doesn't allow for exposed neck? My motorcycle friends have never had this issue which worries me.

Is your helmet a full one or without? When I had a full face helmet, I was fine. However I used a scooter to commute to work with one of those helmets where my face was exposed and my neck use to get cold in 3 Degree Celsius type weather.

The Italians have a weird superstition about catching a cold from a draft and things like that, and I have some Ukranian friends who believe you catch cold from being outside without a scarf.

However, yes it's a virus. The only thing I can think that explains it is that you have tonsilitis and each time you ride without a neck tube your immune system is compromised by the cold wind and your tonsilitis flares up again. It doesn't sound likely, but it's the only possible non psychosomatic explanation that I can think of.

"Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils. It's usually caused by a viral infection or, less commonly, a bacterial infection."

Can it even be caused by the cold? I thought people got it as a response to a big virus where your tonsils are used to store the shit which fights the virus.

Yes I'm well ejuk8ed.

You have a weak immune system. It's impossible to 'catch a cold' simply from getting cold.

It is, however, possible to further weaken the immune system by getting cold and that effectively allows a back door for a virus that would ordinarily been transparently fought off to make a beach head and take you down.

buy one of these:

https://www.getgeared.co.uk/rev_it_balaclava_amazon_gtx?gclid=Cj0KCQiAuZXQBRDKARIsAMwpUeTM7rAnqPYecdhvZedLkMvEgN1v_zT3TkXxZSXT0sfFGjWXRfbQYocaAsnEEALw_wcB&utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping_feed_gg17_228962170-18200103490

They arent cheap at £40 but it is hands down the best bit of bike gear i have. I could wear 7 upper layers and without this thing i'd still freeze.

To answer your question: Its probably you getting colder that is causing additional strain on an already weak immune system.. Do you smoke? Whats your dental hygiene like? These two can be big factors

If you don't want to go full snackbar, then a decent neck-warmer is the way to go:

Best value clothing purchase I've made.

You won't catch a cold if you go out without a scarf and you won't catch warts from touching a toad.

Also, for the avoidance of doubt

It IS safe to go swimming while on your period.

just buy and wear a buff, they're cheap. I wear one every day (even when it's nice out) partially as I get really bad jaw pain in the cold and partially because it helps in getting my lid on without my dumbo style ears folding over.

The buff helps brilliantly with both

Insanely good for the money. I prefer it over ones costing 3 times that.

If you take a piece of cotton and rub it on a wart, then throw the cotton away where nobody ever walks, then the wart will disappear. Yes, I laughed at that one, too. But it came true!!

Apparently you'll get piles if you sit on wet concrete, too.
