It’s interesting that in a picture of great big globs of Kawasaki at it’s best, you’re looking at the floor Question ?

I was going to say Remus, as it's the only manufacturer I could think of ending in US Laughing

quick edit.... I might not be wrong:

Nice. I had a test ride on a ZZR before I bought my Busa. Slightly more touring biased. Both bikes got much much more power than possibly you or I will ever use - but it won't stop us trying! Laughing

Enjoy !

Still puzzles me why the big 1400 is sometimes bought and used as an all year round work commuter by some?

There must be a thing about unsuitable Kawasaki's round here, as I often see a bloke in a high viz/waterproofs commuting to work on a ZZR, and there's a guy that rides to work every day on one of those alien H2R things too. Neither would be my choice of daily hack. I'd probably prefer a CB500/Diversion/Blandit etc.

When this thread was posted I went straight to ebay to see how much a ZZR would cost as I really like the look of the OP's (and I would be using it as an all year round commuter)

Depends on your commute. In busy fast traffic the ZZR would command more respect than a pop pop. In town a 650 would do. As for an H2R - yes please! At least you could smile through a shitty day knowing come home time, you'd have a fantastic ride awaiting. Prefer a CB500?..... Doh!

Coming towards a month in now and i have to admit, it's not love...more, lust. The big Zed is quite....agricultural lower down and compared to my VFR doesn't feel as refined. You can easily see the build quality just doesnt hold a candle to the Honda even in the simple things like bolts. The Honda, everything just....fits. Bolts will just go in even if you hamfist it. On the Kawasaki, you can feel it's made of cheese, a bolt will strip in a hearbeat.

Under 100mph this thing really isn't anything special, it's a big lump but is actually very civilised even pootling around town. The thing is, it doesn't come alive until you hit 120mph. Once you're up there it just opens up like a raging demon and doesn't stop. You can, and will, lose your license so easily. 100mph actually feels like you're doing 60. It's almost like it's constantly whispering in your ear..."faster.....faaaaster"

Now that I've got the VFR fettled and working Im in a bit of a quandry, the Zed needs to prove to me she's the one to keep. For my daily commute the gas mileage is awful, the VFR isn't doing well with what I do Monday to Friday either but this thing....jeeze. I have a feeling this thing might turn out to be just something I needed to get out of my system to say, "yes, I've had one"

I'll wait while Spring to make my mind up I think, the shitty weather means it's hard to get the best out of the Zed.

Though I have zero experience of them and I'm not qualified to offer an opinion or view, what your saying about the biggest Zed is pretty much exactly what I'd have expected.

I do know of one guy that has one and it's his work commuter, and I met a builder geezer on a new housing side in September, and he had one, and again was riding it to work. I think it had a luggage rack and different screen too.

Just seems odd to me that more than one person I've seen with them is commuting on them as a daily rider. I just can't think of how a heavy and Aerodynamic 1.4L bike that munches tyres rapidly, is even considered as a daily bike?

Another bloke my dad knew had one, but he was an IAM group rider, and he got a nice pre VTEC VFR 800 as a second bike, and he said most of the time it was a much better ride and more suitable bike for most situations.

I guess all ZZR owners only have them, because they just want one and that's that! The one thing that the big 1400 and bikes like it are great at, is not something you can really do in the UK, and in my mind if your going to pay out to own and maintain a fast two up continent muncher, you need to be getting your money's worth out of it?

The pub and back riders, or even the road legal drag race competitor's probably don't get their monies worth out them when you add up the running costs IMO.

There is a guy on my pre bike theft commute who went right through the heart of London daily on a zx12r with a stretched swing arm somewhere in the region of 6 inches longer.

That and the ZZR both seem very sensible compared to the very occasional BMW K1600gt I've spotted!

I do have a reputation for purchasing impractical vehicles.

This thing is like dating a porn star, no matter how much you kid yourself your dick just ain't big enough to ride her like she needs.

Aaaand I think I'll move on to the next thing.

Loved it don't get me wrong, handles way better than a small moon should and the powah is just nuts but ultimately it's not practical for what I use bikes for most of the time. That and I'm just going to lose my license in no time flat, the amount of times I've had to anchor on for speed vans is getting silly.

Always fancied a stab at a Tiger 1050 Sport, might have one of those next.

She'll be going up for grabs soon, I'll be looking for £4500 ('07 with couple of miles over 10k on the clock) but could negotiate a BCF discount if anyone fancies a turn on the monster.

Two of my mates have had one. One sold it after 6 months, bought back his old Blackbird and dropped 2 months wages worth of ohlins bits in it. He is happy with his decision.

The other sold his after a year and bought a striple which he liked then chopped that in for a tiger which he also likes but gives him less earache from the wife on the back.

Both the striple and the tiger consistantly use WAY less fuel than my VFR750 over exactly the same route with them both going considerably faster than I can (not for want of trying).

Both the striple and the tiger have been left stranded with charging system failures. Which is embarassing when they are riding with a VFR.

Yup, if you go Triumph route, get a decent R/R and mount it in airflow, not near the fucking exhaust (gg trumpet)

Mounting under the battery tray on a metal plate is a good bet, but you need to extend the wires.

Know the feeling, my gsxr thou may be getting sold soon - in exchange for a 636 B1H.

By the time you're pushing any of these bikes, you're into the don't drop the soap speeds. I love my gsxr thou, it does everything I want and more but it's almost too good - there's too much to play with.

At least you can say you've owned one, the old "been there, done that, got the t shirt" saying springs to mind.
