Because my stolen Honda CBR 600 rr (2006) with H.I.S.S. "according to dealership" did not have an immobilizer like I have declared in my policy. The bike comes with an immobilizer as standard! I just sent them email, linking them to the bike specifications, and send them a photo of when I still had my bike of my ignition switch which above had the H.I.S.S. written clearly. We'll see what they have to say

Here's the actual email

"At inception of your policy with MCE insurance it had been declared that the vehicle had been fitted with an immobiliser, however we have since confirmed with a dealership that this is not the case. Due to the MCE3 breach as mentioned above, MCE insurance have advised that they will be applying an additional premium of £140.50 which will be deducted before any settlement figure is offered along side of your agreed excess."

"a dealership"

which dealership and which chassis number did they use to confirm the specification of your bike?

US versions didn't have HISS IIRC. Maybe they think it's an import? But then again if it's UK spec they have no leg to stand on.

Yes, quite correct. Even my American import 1800 Goldwing didn't have HISS. Perhaps no one steals bikes in the USofA.

Get the ombudsman involved, they will back down. I reckon they are just trying it. My mate had his Bandit 1200 nicked and they accused him of not having the steering lock on.

At least they didn't push straight to the avoidance route, or push a proportional remedy based on a percentage settlement. That's what I'd have expected of them.

He's not having a lot of luck, this guy, is he?

First he buys a lemon from a dealer then has repairs carried out somewhere else before wanting to give it back. Now he's had another bike stolen and an insurer duff him over.

Sympathy required. And custard.

I'm thinking that new users should be required to submit a custard pic at account creation.

Then autobanned anyway.

Disabling new registrations would fix the problem. Thumbs Up

What have you got in mind? Across the back with a baseball bat or a simple push down the stairs?

This is why, other than "garaged", I no longer state that I have any security on my bikes at all, even if it does. There seems to be no real difference in the premium, and it just gives them another reason not to pay out.

Anyway, MCE - 'nuff said.

You say that (and I agree) but because of the crap legislation we have right now, the OP (if they were real) would have saved 140 quid a year until the point the bike got stolen, then he has to cough up.

It rewards the liars.

That^^.

I tell them that I always leave my bike unlocked, with the keys in, in downtown Mogadishu.

Leaves 'em no excuse that way.
