There's plenty of waterproof materials other than goretex. It's making them breathable at the same time that's the trouble.

Anyway I got a new suit at the NEC where they were cheaper than J&S and had almost every possible size to try on.

They are waterproof until whatever the manufacturer used to waterproof them with nikwax or similar washes away ... and I thought it was the synthetic rubber membrane on the nylon which made them waterproof ... but you've been designing bike gear for 20 years so obviously you know what you are talking about.
