You can go and just sit there, ya know.
You don'/t have to say anything until you are ready.

If you turn up, you can just sit and listen to other people's stories. People will try and be friendly, they do tend to notice you are new, and will have noted your presence. I've heard many AA people say "oh did you see that new guy?", along with various discussions about whether they have been seen at other meetings.

So AA'ers do look to see who is new amongst their community, not so much in a recruiting-into-a-cult way (which it is not/they are not) but more as a way of looking out for noobs, looking out to be ready to help you when you are struggling to get to grips with your perceived enormity of the decision to go sober.

But most will quite likely leave you alone for a bit until you're ready to talk - because they all know, they have all been in that place of "not being ready, but wanting to do something about it".

Someone might politely ask if you need help, or even just say hello, but in general people will help you settle in, when you are ready.

So I've heard*... Shifty

That whole "AA is all about God" thing is vastly over-hyped and for the most part avoidable.
They don't press the God thing in any kind of major religious way. Although there are some "religious" types who put that into their own personal journey.
What they do suggest is that you have a "higher power" - it could be that the higher power is just a personification of your own willpower to achieve sobriety.

Its okay to be reticent, wary or anxious, everybody in that room, in every AA meeting across the world, has battled with those same emotions that you might be feeling, before they stood up to introduce themselves for the first time.

*My ex is 3+ years sober, plus another 18 months sober before that (before he fell off}

I need to go and buy milk cos there is none left for my tea.
But I don't want to get out of my dressing gown to go.

I also need to buy sterling, cos I am now sitting on a ridiculous amount of cash euros that I can't fucking spend.

I want to buy a new phone, just a cheap eBay renovated/unlocked one, cos I utterly refuse to commit to another ridiculously expensive 2-year contract with O2 for an overrated phone that will be worthless in a year's time anyway.

Sort yourself out, dude.
Manky socks are vile.

A toe* sticking out of a hole in a sock is a dealbreaker for most women, when it comes to hot dates.

You could be Prince Charming, Mr Right, even just Mr Right Now ... but as soon as your shoe is off, most girls want to keep their knickers on. Only the truly desperate will shag a bloke with his toe sticking out of his sock.

What're you planning on using the ribbon on, Pat? Vocals? They're supposed to be quite sensitive to plosives iirc. Then again so are LDCs. So fts. Which one are you after? Personally I tend to think placement, room and processing are easier and cheaper ways to get a different sound. If you listen to some of these records done using a single SM57 I usually end up concluding that unless you're a bit of a pro, cheap ribbons, LDCs and what-not are basically auditory snake oil.

What's your budget?

Bass guitar...Line6 ???
Have you got or tried the bass Pod w/ any of your "normal" bass guitars? Imo this'd be as good if not better than whatever weird analogue modelling instrument are marketing. Oh and probably a fair chunk cheaper too.

Goldring 1042 cartridge.

Yeah nice. Thing is, if I bunged one of these on my Planar 2 it'd be nearly as dear as the tone arm, platter, motor and plinth combined! Also, w/ the Planar, there's this weird issue that arises from the deck's motor placement. If you fit a really strong i.e. good cartridge, when the stylus gets towards the centre of the record, it picks up noise from the motor!! So ironically a cheaper, less sensitive cartridge is better.

16:4 Audio mixer...A&H or Mackie???
I've got a 1402 vlz pro - which as ALWAYS been total overkill for my requirements, and in retrospect, a waste of money. Will you be recording a full drum kit? Or a small orchestra?

Even if you can say yes to the former, I honestly think the best kit sound comes from a simple sort of Glyn Johns set-up - or even a 3 mic thang (overheads + kick).
