Planning on replacing stock exhaust on my 2017 SV650 with a
(street legal) Yoshimura one.

My local mechanic suggested either the R77 or Alpha slip-on exhaust,
however from yoshimura site didnt quite understand the differences
pros/cons of each (additionally looking at some online retailers not sure
r77 is actually compatible with the 2017 SV).

Anyone familiar with the relative differences between thes two models?

I've got an Alpha on my GSX250R and Hepta Force on my Hayabusa. Not exactly the same as you are asking but it might be worth pointing out that my Alpha is very loud/grunty compared to the Hepta, despite the massive difference in my two bikes' power. The Alpha is more of a race can. Try sound bites on You Tube, with headphones. Hope this helps

Assuming you're in the UK. Neither of those options are UK road legal as neither are E-Marked. I also don't think there's an R77 for that year SV. There is the Alpha, which is fine.

thanks wafer_thin_ham,

actually suzuki uk lists the R77J as a road legal accessory on their site:
https://bikes.suzuki.co.uk/bikes/street/sv650/?grade=5c515f79-1ca2-420e-acc1-4a11bd5160bc&price=5699&Colour=Metallic+Triton+Blue+%2F+Pearl+Glacier+White+(AGQ)
"Yoshimura R77J End Can
Road Legal, Stainless Steel, EURO 4 Compliant, Exclusive to Suzuki GB."

I wouldn't fret about road legal. I have a full catless Yoshimura TRC on the Zed which are marked 'race only' and that passes mot (granted I peeled the race only sticker off and I might have bought a fakey sticker but whatever)

The VFR has Remus GP cans on that aren't stamped and that also passes without an eyelid batted.

Oh and the Aprilia has rowdy as fuck cans and is fine.

I like em loud, not hurt yer ears loud but certainly ballsy.

I only had an advisory on my Harley pipes with 'a bit loud' on the MOT. That was an understatement as they set off car alarms regularly! The Yoshis are puppy dogs by comparison. You won't be disappointed with the Alpha though!

I have a Yoshi Alpha T on my GSX and it sounds great, nice idle note and not antisocial in towns. Best described as nicely loud without getting on your nerves.
