I know there are 1 or 2 on here, so I thought I'd post. The sole flying civil Antonov AN-22 is due to do a couple of flights into Manchester Airport over the next few days ..

30/11/2017 - Manchester Arrival time - 21:15
01/12/2017 - Manchester departure time - 11:30
05/12/2017 - Manchester Arrival time - 18:45
06/12/2017 - Manchester departure time - 11:00

It's an impressive aircraft ..

I've seen some big bombers up close and crawled inside (NATO days, Ostrava, CZE) and those were huge. The kind of huge that you keep reminding yourself the thing can actually fly.

Seeing the Antonov in person must be a surreal experience.

Ever been in a Lockheed Galaxy? That thing's like walking into a flying cathedral.

I've seen it from the outside and mid flight, they didn't let people in. Still unbelievable.

I believe the biggest Antonov is bigger than a C5 Galaxy, but the picture the OP posted initially is not of that aircraft (the Ruslan or Condor).

It's Ukranian don't you know.

Your right the Antonov AN-124, is slightly larger than the Galaxy, and then the Antonov AN-225 is bigger still. However, the Antonov AN-22 is the largest turboprop aircraft in the world. There are a handful still in service with the Russian Air Force

The AN225 is fairly regular at Finningley (Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood) I still dont see what's wrong with Finningly airport as a name, that's where it is.

I've never bothered videoing it but someone has. Google tells me that the runway is 60 meters wide and 2895 long.

I keep referring to Manchester as Ringway because it used to be and is at the village of Ringway, formally in Cheshire.

Manchester has 'city' airport much closer (but technically in Salford) to Manchester itself.

I'm not an aficionado, however I worked at Pafos airport when they were building the new terminal. A large Antonov, very similar to the one in the OP, would arrive every two weeks.
It was always a surprise when it actually got off the ground, it seemed to trundle along the runway very slowly, (compared to anything else), it also seemed to use a lot more of the runway before getting airborne.
Quite a spectacle really!

They used to have the Galaxy's opened up to the public quite often at Fairford in the late 90's/early 00's before security got clamped down. Fairly sure there was a static Antonov opened up one year too, but I've lost half the photo's from back then. Both pretty impressive bits of kit up close Razz.

I went to the Evergreen Aviation museum in McMinville Oregon, and I saw the Spruce Goose, and walked inside. It was pretty mind blowing.

Have been in an Antonov AN225 , stationary on a runway .... but walking inside is ...... just weird.

They are big beyond what you could comprehend a plane to be and still get airborne.

Matt - it was Fairford i got inside that plane, the year the 2 Migs collided in mid air.

I have a pic of me somewhere standing beside an SR71 Blackbird ... it had drip trays under it as it leaks fuel when it's not flying. Apparently it's a design feature because the airframe changes shape so much when it's flying at altitude / high speed.

Never got to see an SR71 in person sadly Sad. Some of the my most memorable visits were the first time's they had the F117 and B2 static with an old U2.

Was digging through a few old photo's earlier and the security is hilarious looking back now Laughing. Not sure if they've been static/ground bound at all in recent years as I've not been to a show for quite a while, but considering this was late 90's and they were still relatively "new" technology; the first year the F117 had a single unarmed guard stood with it Shocked. The following year they upgraded this to a couple of armed police and a "restricted" sign on the fence. Don't think they would get away doing that anymore!

The B52 and B1 were always comical to watch taking off too, as it would set off half the car alarms across the site Razz.

They have an SR71 at Duxford Wink
I got glared at by the security on an F117 static display at Fairford. Don't think he liked how interested I was in it, with the camera (I was interested, as I had worked in EW in the RAF). Ffs, don't bring it to an airshow then you dimwit! Laughing
I worked for two years at an airbase where U2s were based. The security there was very tight. No one but authorised personnel were allowed anywhere near that side of the airfield, not even us RAF hosts.
Had a photo I took of a B2 flypast at Fairford. Taken from the front, it looked like the typical idea of a UFO, gave some idea of where such "sightings" might have come from.
