Well that's the RF900 all tucked up snug and warm, sprayed up with WD40, tank full of petrol with a bottle of Briggs & Stratton fuel fit additive tipped in for good measure. Optimate plugged in, all set for the following March when I'll venture out on 2 wheels again.

Anyone else put their bike away for winter?

Needs more detail as to where was sprayed and what purpose serves.

Why, what happens?

Bar days when temperatures reach ice forming coldness and when snow is predicted, no.

I have a black belt in being a pussy and hiding under the duvet.
However, my bike is all ready to go when the cabin fever sets in and I need to go out.
Only the ice and heavy rain will stop me if I need to go out.
But my nice warm car is nice and warm, hmmm toastie! Thumbs Up

Worked from home the other day when the snow hit.

That’s the only type of weather that stops me.

I’m only annoyed at that fact when I get the predictions wrong and I don’t waterproof up and get hit with icy cold rain. That’s not nice.

Work is 35 miles away. When possible I take the bike, if it rains I take the car, if it is cold I take the car, Dec-mid March I take the car. The car has a heater, the car has an mp3 player and a coffee holder and if it rains you put on the wipers.

Meh.

bike is my only mode of transport
a super sports not an ideal winter hack but just ride to the conditions
I'm getting a full wash and ATF coat this weekend and dialed the PC back a tad
decent set of touring tires on so good to go through the winter

All over, literally all over. WD40 waterproof/water repellent so good for bike. That and a few drops of 3in1 oil in the barrel and tank and other locks.

Oil in locks isn't the best idea. You should be using graphite powder to lubricate lock mechanisms.

Always used 3in1 in locks, you learn something new everyday.

Just ordered some of this:

Takes me 3 minutes to walk to work, I haven't used my bike in ages as I have no reason to. So yes, I'd say mine is laid up unless it perks up over the xmas holiday and I'll give it a cautious thrashing.
And if I get rainpal as a xmas gift then all the better.

It was 9 degrees C today. Lovely winter riding. Only take the Busa out if the surfaces are really dry, every week or so to keep battery charged. Take the 250 out most days unless icy or very wet. All oiled up and ready for the quiet season. Don't see the point owning a bike and not using it - I'll be forced to do that when I'm dead or too old to ride. On days like today, I'm sooooo glad I ride through winter, for pleasure. Those guys who preserve there bike for the next lucky owner.......why? Still, I'm retired and would go nuts if I did not ride! I do think about the bikers toasty warm in their safe cages, especially when I'm blasting past as I filter through the gridlocked city traffic. Rolling Eyes

When I get round to re-building one of my bikes as a cheap budget but daytime road legal off roader, I'll be doing alot more winter biking, but only if most of it is off road.

Im keen to avoid using the phrase green laning, as I find even out in the sticks green lanes are short and sporadic and have to be stitched together with miles of road use on crappy knobblies. Not much fun IMO. So I'll be looking for pay and play sites, and being able to use a bike on anything from quiet MX practice tracks, to trials events, and beginner's enduro events too. Miss the old pay and play sites with very varied terrain where you could just spend all day Saturday improving your off road skills without holding anyone up.

Oil in locks is not the best solution as it allows dust and shit to stick. Maybe OK if replaced regularly and a suitable oil is used.

WD40 Water Displacement No. 40. (Shite lubricant and the solvent drives out any 'proper' lube that is already there.)

Graphite Powder is the Berries for locks et al.

It is dry so shite has nothing to stick to. It is temperature inert so won't thicken when it gets cold.

Google it
