Yes, but a Street Triple might have worked just as well without the backache.

I have to say my 2008 600RR is a flipping good bike to ride, and if you want to mainline adrenaline it's as good as anything. I can imagine that a k5 Gixxer would be very similar.

You do have one advantage that the Gixxer will be more comfortable than my race-seat equipped CBR.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Well I don't know, you tell us. Razz

Different strokes for different folks and all that, if you get on with the bike then it'll offer plenty of excitement as it's more of a race focused hooligan than your CBF1000 was.

Just pointing out in a roundabout way that you ask the question whether or not you've made the right decision, but you've already bought the bike. What if everyone said you'd made the wrong decision? Bit late then, isn't it?

Never mind. Doesn't matter.

Here's the bike in case anyone wants to buy it before the OP does. Razz

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152695108765
https://www.mmcbikes.co.uk/usedbikedetail.php?id=37604

It's done less than 100 miles since June 2013.

I'm pretty sure it's been a track bike.

Put the reg PL05 ZPR into https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ and IMO "no lights. daytime use only" probably means it's been a track bike.

That's not necessarily a problem but if nothing else, it's something I'd prefer to hear from the seller rather than BCF.

A genuine thank you for showing me this. Something to think about Shocked. Also who owes a bike and does so few miles.

You can see the tax disc on some of the eBay photos. Laughing

Are there marks at the bottom of the engine casing on the LHS? https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/3icAAOSwxeBZsZw3/s-l1600.jpg

Oooh good spot!

I wouldn't buy anything from them on principle, because their spelling of 'millennium' causes me physical pain every time I see it. Very Happy

Are there any marks on the fairings to indicate a drop? If it has been a track bike in the past, perhaps the damage was caused while in track fairings leaving only the engine casing as the evidence?

No the fairings are spotless no marks on the pegs etc. The daylight mot was for one year also some years it had no mot at all.

That screams either track bike, or one requiring lots of time off the road to repair on multiple occaisions. If either hasn't been declared, I'd be telling them to explain sharpish, and when it does come out, get deposit back and buy something else.

If they don't want to give you your deposit back, Might want to nudge them about concealing "little details" like that and remind them it's trivial these days to use a high court sheriff to truly piss on their parade.

Gixxers are great bikes but unless you buy from someone you know or new, the likelihood is it has been thrashed - that's what they are for. Having said that, I tested a K5 a couple of years ago which seemed to be a good buy. I had a new 600 a few years back. Saw it again after a few owners and had a test ride.....wow, a lot has changed. Buy new if you can, particularly with the 'ride it like you stole it' bikes. I ride a Busa but still have a lot of fond memories of little sports bikes - so nimble and lightweight. As for ex track bikes, forget it unless you have a very small budget or are a wiz at rebuilds!

If it's been used a track bike then there's a good chance the OEM fairings were wrapped in bubble wrap and safely stored out of harms way.

If it hasn't been a track bike then wtf has been happening with the daylight only MOTs, the years with no MOT, the very low mileage, etc etc etc? Laughing

There's something in the bikes history that the dealer doesn't want you to know and that's what would worry me. There's billions of Gixxers to choose from so get your deposit back and then go and find one which has less unknowns. Thumbs Up

I hate[*] to say it, but £4K for a 12 year old bike that's been down the track and possibly had its odometer disconnected for much of its life might not be the deal of the century.

Also, "clean" bikes don't have scraped engines.

Soz m8 anorl.

[*] relative to BCF cultural norms.

Cant believe how these bikes are holding their value.

Years ago I sold my k4 750 for £3k. Jesus.

Anyway, previous to the 750 I had a k4 600 and it was an absolute hoot. Such a fun bike that can be thrashed & the induction noise from a GSXR is something that you just dont get on another bike. Probably why I keep going back to them...

Front brake master cylinder is absolute garbage though. Do a search - I think there was a recall on them? Certainly be worth a check anyway.

Mine had the same scratch on the engine casing - I bought the bike from a friend knowing it had been down the road so yours shows signs of this.

I'd be getting the dealer to pull the fairings off TBH to see whats hidden behind. Just a note, not all ex-track bikes are bad bikes... in fact my R1 has an oil/filter change & check over about every 200 miles because of track use!
