Doro Pesch, as mentioned in the link from Sload, is amazing and isn't as try hard as most - she's like a female version of Dio. Check her early stuff out before she moved to america and went solo, and pumped out horrible music thereafter.

Of course there is also Skin from Skunk Anansie, Brett Anderson from The Donnas, Carrie Akre from Hammerbox and many more. But we're not talking big acts here, this is amateur club stuff and I wonder if the female singers are being used as gimmicks rather than being there because they're good at it? Or perhaps they start the band to show how cool and alternative they are and no one dares tell them to pack it in?

I've seen these live. Was very disappointed to find out that she doesn't sing like that.

To name a few.. rock/metal

halestorm
Evanescence
within temptation
lacuna coil
in this moment
the pretty reckless
dirty youth
semblant
lacey sturm
icon for hire
flyleaf
versaemerge
diamante

skillet have female guitarist and drummer

not a fan of the eating the mic type like arch enemy but to each their own

I quite like female fronted metal/rock bands, makes a nice change. if they're decent of course. found most of the above just on random youtube playlists. don't like all they do but there are a few choice songs i really rate.

Maybe a little more of the extreme side and certainly not rock, but I'm all for front (wo)men.

On one of Slash's albums there was a cover of Paradise City with Fergie and Cypress Hill. She makes a better Axl Rose than Axl Rose.

Plenty of good female fronted bands

Some of those not mentioned...

No Doubt
The Distillers
Hole
Fleetwood Mac
Joan Jett & The Runaways

Out of the ones I can think of, Heart were pretty good before their eighties power ballad bloat phase.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gpNqB4dnT4

I also don't mind a bit of Roxette every now and again:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlVI7ZNiFlI

I really don't rate Evanescence for example, they didn't write any of their own stuff. It's a bit to much of a cynical cash in for my liking.

Used to also have a soft spot for the Cardigans:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9WgtlgGAgs

As with the Donnas:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCvRT2sy5FE

There's also L7 - I have this song on one of my current Spotify playlists:

L7's first two albums were brilliant. And they are all female (or were last time I checked). Not the sort of totty you'd take home to your mum though, apprently they used to spit and throw used tampons into the crowd Sick

Apparently they did that once at the Reading Festival because their equipment broke down and the crowd got restless, throwing mud onto the stage. One of them threw a used tampon into the crowd, which was a pretty rough thing to do, but it wasn't something they did more than once as far as I know, and I think they were more famous in the '90s' for one of the band removing the clothes from the bottom half of her body during a performance on the late night TV programme 'The Word'.

Altered Images (and not just their Happy Birthday song, "Dead Pop Stars" is pretty good, recently played at Truro and they were grrrrreat!)

I saw L7 at the NEC back in the day (supported Faith no More who were pants)

Girlschool were OK in their day, although obviously best known for the Headgirl collaboration - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiNBSh4ol1o

Good live - though when we put them on they started drinking the crew beer after the gig rather then bringing their own rider with them and having a joint party (as some other bands did) Evil or Very Mad

Gotta love a bit of Charioteer Church in those videos!

Has anybody put forward a case for Chrissie Hynde? If not then I'd like to add her to the list of females who can rock
