Sigh, didnt work and after the third attempt it felt like the car battery was going so I gave it a rest.

I think it requires a full carb clean, which I may or may not attempt depending on how long I still have a garage for (its measured in weeks and not months!)

thanks for all the help, much appreciated

One other simple thing to check, These blades have a lift pump to keep the carbs full.
Its under the carbs, down on the engine cases, your manual should point you in the right direction.
These pumps are the old type with a set of contact points in the end and it's a common problem for them to stick, My Blade used to refuse to start after a layup unless I gave the end a good tap to get the sticking points moving.
I replaced the points assembly with a set from David Silver. No probs since.

do a compression check just to rule that one out........fuel pump points "stick"..................do valves I wonder, but if no nasty sounds when cranking, then hopefully valves/seats all good, apart from the ones that stayed open when the engine last stopped, eh.

Jeez, enough with the overthinking doom and gloom already.

OP, no need for a compression check at this point (or probably ever), just get the fuel into the carbs and it'll start. If it's reluctant then a squirt of easy start into the air box will probably get things moving for you. Thumbs Up

I didn't have room for the fuel pump after making a few 'alterations' to my 'Blade, so I chucked it in a box marked 'Blade bits', along with the coolant expansion tank and three kilos of wiring. Laughing
Ran perfectly well. Cool

OP: Have you pulled the plugs and had a look at them/ made sure you've got a spark?

No, I have sort of stopped for now, as I am losing my garage soon and don’t want to start taking things apart and have to move

Are you moving around your current area? I ask because I'm happy to come assist and get it running, but really, you want somewhere warm. If you are willing to send me the carbs, I'll strip and clean them for you... throttle cables probably gonna be a bastard though. Laughing
