Assen, accommodation and stopoffs

so after being inspired by Matt B and his trip to Assen for the BSB, I've booked next years with work, and the wife...

I presumed a lot of folk here have been over before, so wondered if you all had some recommendations of both places to stay (failing usual air bnb huntings) and places/things to see along the way...
