My switchgear is getting old. I've revived it for the moment with contact cleaner and the like, but it's not going to last. Indicating left needs a certain knack.
However, finding something is proving more difficut thatn I first thought. I really, really dislike the Harley layout with an indicator on each side, so can anyone suggest other 1" switchgear, as I'm not at all familiar with the details of cruisers. Not fussed on wiring and connectors, I can sort that out, I just need something that physically fits and hasn't got a gash layout. Not fussed what it's off or if it's second hand, as long as it works, and cheap would be nice if I can get it.
Pointers much appreciated, and I really hope I'm just being dense and using the wrong search terms. If I need to use the Harley layout, it's better than intermittant function, but it'll be with no small amount of bitching and moaning about it. ____________________ '98 VFR800 (touring) - '12 VFR800 Crosrunner (Commuting) - '01 KDX220 (Big Green Antisocial Machine) |

My Savage had 1" bars. Although a picture of my knitting row trip counter, it shows what the left hand switchgear looked like :-

Most switch gear is plastic where it butts against the bar.
In most cases, I'd expect it to take a couple of minutes work with a bit of sandpaper wrapped round a piece of broom handle to convert 7/8" to 1". ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. There may be a steel/plastic dowel in them that's supposed to go in a hole in the bar (there's a steel one on the one you pictures off alibaba) I've always been of the oppinion that a hole drilled inteh bar is more risky than a slight chance of the switches rotating. Pull/snip the dowel out.
If the switches start turning on the bar, wrap a couple opf layers of PVC tape round the bar under them so they get a good grip. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I ended up buying these:- https://bit.ly/2DcmJkf
As long as it works, I'm not really fussed on looks, but sooner, rather than later, what I have will stop working. I hate the Harley layout or I'd order those and not piss about with modifying.
I do have a 3D printer. The only spacer I can visualise is between the back of the switches and the bar. If that's the case, the controls are going on a rat, so there's no need, I'll just chuck some 2 part epoxy in there, bit of greaseproof paper to keep the profile and bosh, job jobbed. ____________________ '98 VFR800 (touring) - '12 VFR800 Crosrunner (Commuting) - '01 KDX220 (Big Green Antisocial Machine) |
