I recently purchased a Canon 5D Mk II. (with a couple of lenses)

I had to buy lenses to suit as the lenses for my 400D do not work with the 5D electronics.

I have a Canon RC-6 remote control that I used with the 400D.

According to the book this device should work with the 5D.

It requires the timer/remote control to be enabled in the settings which I have done.

(AF-Drive button (near shutter release) and select IR/timer using the 'quick control dial'.)

The IR release still does not trip the shutter.
I checked the battery voltage 3v (and replaced it anyway with a fresh button cell.)
Still doesn't work the shutter.

I have ordered a new RC-6 from ebay as I suspect my unit is 'something' or the camera IR sensor is gubbed.
(I downloaded an IR detection app for my phone to play with as see if it shows the IR from the RC-6)

The RC still works my 400D Thinking

Anyone got any ideas?

One of the first shots with 'new' camera and lens.

EF 75-300mm F4-5.6 Ultrasonic (USM) III Zoom Lens

Spring got to Scotland a few days earlier.

Handheld about 4-5' from subject, mid-day, natural light.

Resized for LOLs

Have you got the manual, or downloaded it as PDF.
Mine says something slightly different.
I have a remote with a lead plugs in the side for mine.

I downloaded the manual for the camera and the RC.

My attachment is a capture of my camera manual PDF Smile.

I thought I was doing something wrong. I have not read the manual properly yet and just farting about with the camera.

I am sure I am setting it up properly as from the manual there are only two settings, shutter button release or Self timer 0 (or 2 secs) which is also the RC setting.

Set the shutter timer to delay 2secs and use the switch on the remote to either shoot straight away or to shoot on timer. It deffo works i use a few of there for night long exposure stuff.
