I am having to lay off the running at the moment to my frustration, I have pain in both knees for the last 10 days and made it worse by running last Thursday.

As for rowers - It won't kill you, It will help you, It might bore you (I need to watch something/someone when I am rowing.

no, I have one, I'm not deaded

they can be "unpleasant" have you tried one? Have a go on one before you splash out on one, that said, mine was just £15 from a junk shop. Great workout, but if I really go for it, which I seldom do, I can feel rather unwell for a few minutes. Hardly use mine, but used it the other day, it's great for cardio.

I had slacked off of the weights and core excercise whilst I was concentrating on cycling, now I'm trying to do both, and up the running.

Weights and core Sunday and Monday night, cycle ride 56 miles Monday. Today went out for a spot of green laning on the 2t, then a short 15mile cycle ride, into very strong bordering on unpleasant head winds, then a mad dash sprint on the bike for a couple of miles late for an appointment, ran 8 miles this evening.

Social ride tomorrow with a club, going in the beginners group I am a new member, not done it before, want to find the club and say hit etc then got my first time trial on Thursday - so will need to buy a cycle helmet - I don't own one. Hope to do weights and core again.

Try one out before buying...

I think the boredom will kill you before your heart and lungs give in.

Narrowly missed 110k snatch Brick Wall that's happening very soon.

Cardio side is going well, hitting the stepper about 4 times a week, managed 70 floors in 10 minutes so pace is improving - love it when it comes to feeling like you've actually done something and another 2lb has gone - with the good weather now the cycles bike will see some more use Thumbs Up

Did my first of two time trial training nights, entering an evening league. Practiced starts, guy holding bike and counting me down, with my feet clipped in.

Also, thinking of entering a 24hr time trial.

They class my hybrid as a mountain bike so i won't be in the same category as the roadies, which is just as well, down hill top gear pedaling until my chain went slack, and the guys in front are just freewheeling and pulling away from me

It's getting harder rather than easier Very Happy

I'm hoping the cravings will start to subside at end of a couple of weeks in Praying

My right leg finally is beginning to be normal again, will rest it again tonight (might go out on the mtb) but plan to try and run tomorrow night after doing stretches and stuff. I have spent the week looking at stretching videos and stuff and trying them where possible at work.

I need a road bike preferably a racing bike, when I go out on the mtb now I am never off the top ring at the front gear and in the highest at the back pedalling flat out the max is 16mph. I will keep the mtb for trails but I cant kid myself any longer that I don't want a road bike.

Been training hard lately, have put on a fair bit of weight (now up to 10st) but last night I stayed in a hotel as I was away for work. There happened to be a full length mirror in there, and damn my stomach looks good. I just need to get rid of the other flabby bits really. This time last year I was down to 9st 3, which is the lowest I've been since I was a teenager. I assume a lot of the extra weight since is actually muscle. Will have to do another bodyfat analysis test.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

That's a pretty sick snatch.

I'm not sure I'll ever be able to snatch that much Sad

Recently got back into training properly after a car crash a few months back. Luckily my weight stayed around the same, managed to kind of maintain it with diet, but damn i forgot how hard it is to shift 18st up a hill at any kind of pace, or for any respectable distance Laughing all in time for a fitness test on monday

Have you not thought of vapeing as a substitute for the first couple of months?
My missus vaped when she decided to quit smoking.
She is now completely off the cigarettes and is working on slowly getting off the vapes Thumbs Up

I actually did "quit" with a vape for a year or so, thanks to lurking CaNsA's thread on here.

I had a big night out, smoked a single cigarette, and that was it - straight back to 20 Marlboro Gold a day Sad

I've come to realise that vaping (for me) just means replacing one addiction with another, and that cold turkey is the only way I can personally quit. Vaping clearly works well for others, although I've yet to see someone quit the fags with a vape and then successfully quit the vape as well! It's the lesser of two evils I suppose though.

Today is day 5... I think I'm over the worst of it now.

Mrs Powderhead has been getting on my tits more than usual though Laughing

I have. I have some depression and anxiety issues though, so it didn't really work out for me.

It definitely stops the cravings, but I found it also stopped me wanting to do anything. You don't want to smoke, but you don't really want to eat or fvck or exercise or socialise.

YMMV.

ridden bicycle for 7 days straight, slowly upping mileage, not huge miles like some of my rides in this thread, but just riding every day

group ride today, 30 miles, some people were impressed with my uphill speed, but I think it's just the way my bike is geared, I've got more chain rings for example, it's quite slow on the downhills

I was finally able to start c25k week 4 run 1 today and managed the increased distances. I am a little sore now but can still walk ok 3 hours after finishing so hopefully I won't be crippled for 8 days.

I struggle after running for a couple of days if I push anything more than 5k, mostly achilles, which flared up recently when I went for it and got a pb.

Rode my bicycle 62 miles today, did 30 miles on Sunday. Todays 62miler was my fastest ever average for a longer ride. 13.3mph - which is slow I know, but I'm not on a road bike. Adjusted the saddle height, and I think that made almost 0.5mph difference, and got my first +13mph average for a longer ride.

Weights and core tues and weds, then 2nd week of time trial training

I tried Champix years ago and it sent me barking mad, so much so that the Mrs asked me to take up tabs again. Wouldn't want to do it again....

Currently haven't smoked since January. I weaning myself off the nicotine and am down to 0.3 on a vape, which I am told is f*ck-all compared to Drum with no filter (my old fag of choice...).

I will have to stop the vape at some point, but not just yet.

My cousin did a 75 mile ride on one of his road bikes on Sunday - according to strava his average speed was 17mph which is faster than the flat out maximum of my mountain bike. Hence why I feel I want a road bike.

rest day today - I am a bit sore but not in anything like the pain as per the last run, tomorrow I plan weights and mtb. Thursday is my birthday and out for a meal with the folks so nothing then, I have scheduled the next c25k for Friday night when hopefully I will be fully recovered. I have plotted a new route to give me extra distance as one issue last night was I had to add 6 mins of going round in a big circle due to me completing my normal route within the time.

Over a week off the fags now. It's a lot easier than it was on the first few days. I think about it every now and again, but I'm not climbing the walls any more.

When can I say I'm a non-smoker? Very Happy

20 years apparently to fully recover to that of a person that has never smoked.

As one who has given up in the past many times, you are never a non-smoker, merely a smoker who chooses not to...
