Clean and lubricate everything. Seals to make better seal and the mechanism to make sure the roof is fully closing. Then check the drainage actually works (most of I've seen had the drainage through one of the A-pillars). How to check the drainage? Well, pour some water there.
Like so (all the water should end up on the ground, under the car and it shouldn't take long):

When A/C became affordable, efficient and reliable.
When I started selling cars in the mid 80s, A/C had an effect on fuel consumption, power output and was only available on top drawer models - eg, it was listed as an option on the Montego VdP, but it cost £1200, which was about 10% of the price of the car; in that period, I can't remember ever selling a car with the A/C option box ticked.
Ten years later, engines were more powerful (for a given capacity) A/C systems were more efficient and the cost had halved.
Another ten years on and A/C was expected - have a look through the classifieds and see how many post 2005 cars you can find (above the most basic, shitbox superminis) that don't have it.
tl:dr somewhere around the first half of the 21st century, it became largely standard. ____________________ Things get better with age; I'm close to being magnificent........

Interesting. I'd say there are enough cars where it's an option that you'd still benefit from a sunroof*, although maybe that's the idea.
*it was many moons ago my dad had a car with one but I don't remember them really cooling the car down. Maybe if you're in the back? |

mrs car had a sunroof but the inner panel disappeared into the roof somewhere so couldn't shut the sunlight out
on a trip to cornwall with the sun directly overhead I ended up burning my head in the car
and got sunstroke ____________________ gilera runner vxr200 (chavped)

My Brother's fairly recent Peugeot came with A/C and sunroof. I can't really tell if it's a benefit or not. It does somehow suck air out of the car but at the same time the sunroof is made out of glass so the sun is scorching your legs/head.
I never liked sunroofs, always though it was a useless piece of something, that's going to eventually leak. When I was looking for a pimp mobile (Mercedes-Benz), I got one without a sunroof.
Now being a bit more educated, I wouldn't worry about leaks. After all, 99% of issues with water leaks is caused by faulty drainage, rather than mechanical damage, and about 70% of that is just a result of dirt, mostly tree leaves rotting inside. It's not rocket science, but takes some time to keep the drainage/s clean and in perfect order. Something that people never do, so when you buy a used car that's been parked under trees for years, you may expect issues with water leaks. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I think i have it sussed.
It looks like a blocked drain, I ran a bit of wire down the drain hole an it seemed to get stuck/ hit something solid, when I removed the wire it was covered in soil
So as per "Rhyno's" vid, I will pull the glovey out tomorrow an see if i can access the pipe from there.
Another issue it has, is the inter heater fan switch doesn't work, at some point someone has fitted a toggle switch for the fan so its either on maximum speed or off.
heat controls work, as does the A/C.
Just been reading abut it an it could be a resistor behind the glovebox so will have a look at that aswell
cheers all |

I wouldn't be without my T-bar removable glass roof panels, which being titanium coated are the only Ti part on the whole car.
Sure the already crap structural rigidity is much worse, the wind noise whistling around the roof panels is annoying, and yeah they can be a source of leaks.
I'd rather be able to remove half the length of my roof on a hot day, and feel the breeze, than have all the extra pipe work, weight, power sapping compressors, and a condenser to get damaged, as well as having all that nasty refrigerant gas to leak out, or make working in my already very crowded engine bay any worse.
Fuck A/C, it's a modern car thing and I don't like it! I'd like to throw out my PAS rack and pipework too if there was a manual rack available, as I don't want to deal with high pressure hoses, or pay to have some made etc. |
