You'd think beings of pure energy, pure thought wouldn't need fossil fuels any more.

In a way it is so *potentially* dangerous that I'm surprised it's become the norm in most countries.

An attendant at a petrol station offered to fill my car the other day (Shell at Rayleigh Weir) - I declined his weird offer (mainly in fear of having to tip him for doing something that I don't need or want help with - like the guy who hands you a paper tissue to dry your hands with in the loo)
I guess he must've moved there from Oregon.

The guy behind the till at one petrol station (somewhere near Cheshunt IIRC, this was about 18 months ago) got really upset when I tried to pay him, saying that he was supposed to fill my tank, and I shouldn't have done it myself. He had been busy processing the payment of the car on the other side of the pump and so he hadn't been able to stop me.

Why do I get a horrid premonition that'll be the next beggar wheeze? Hulking grey-bearded unaccompanied minors hanging around petrol stations offering / threatening to fill your tank in if you pay / refuse to pay them a bribe.

Never been anywhere that posh Very Happy This pumping fuel for you thing is weird, only seen it once, years ago in a yokel part of Devon (it was an independent 'garage' as well).

It’s standard in South Africa too, most attendants fill your car, wash your windscreen and check your oil if you want. Then again they also sometimes syphon gas into containers (instead of your car) or start pumping without resetting the pump if you not paying attention Laughing dirty buggers

a few places I go to they fill my bike up for me, but mostly cos these are tiny little places where the pump is locked, and a mechanic will wander out from a workshop cleaning is oily hands on a rag and fill the bike

A272
B1040
B660

those are the three I use most, largely due to pathetically small fuel range on some of my bikes

I had never done anything other than use a self service fuel pump until my first day riding in Ireland (about 1991).

I pulled in to a small country petrol station, put my bike on its centre stand and opened the fuel cap. I lifted the pump out of its cradle and as I turned to use it I found it being pulled out of my hand. For a few fleeting seconds I pulled back, half convinced I was being mugged and someone was going to run off with the pump.

Took me a while to realise that the big hairy bloke with the big hairy accent was going to do all the work for me and take the weird money with the scary faces from me.

Some years ago I pulled up at a filling station in Bromyard and as I was fuelling it a veritable Hippo of a woman came charging out of the office thing and gave me a right bollocking, tore a strip off me a mile wide as the place was supposed to be an 'attended' outlet. Should've got up off her fat ass a bit earlier.

There was a couple of places in Kent that had an attendant pump fuel for you. Believe both where small independence garages with a high fuel price. Always wondered why people would go there.

That was my thinking, it was independent olde worlde type garages who factored in the 'service' to the price, I'd never have expected a Shell etc. to do it.

I can see why she might go to one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vupgBykQnko
