I needed a new mains power adapter for my DSLR and being a cheapskate I ordered from Gearbest.com
I took the option of express post that said coming from the Netherlands
I didn't check the origin country (my bad) and it turns out its China

the order was placed on the 9th Dec 2017 and I couldn't track it for the first week
I was tempted just to order one in the Uk (twice the price) but with Xmas coming I thought why bother
as I thought it will not take too long for the original order to arrive

here we are almost a month on and this is what I've found out
and one part in particular has me worried

It's because one of the cheapest ways to ship things is SAL - Surface, Air Lift.

This means they will transport it by surface as far as possible before airlifting it is needs be to the final destination.

PRC is attached to Europe so they'll send it over land as far west as possible.

OTOH Japan they'll send it overland to Fukota then airlift it out.

The dismantling probably just means they opened the package for customs or perhaps to check not lipos.
Around 28 days is fairly normal for anything from China by economy delivery.

Not disputing this is the general case, but I did have one package DHLed to Newbury from Denmark. It flew from Denmark to Gatwick, then Gatwick to Brussels (IIRC) then Brussels to Heathrow, before being loaded on a truck to head down the M4. Presumably in DHL-land it was cheaper to bung it on a plane to Belgium and back than drive it around the M25. Mind you, with the traffic it could well have been faster.

I don't know about packages but some of the flights I arranged for people (just another sort of cargo really) when a shipping manager bordered on the utterly ludicrous. We had a remit for the plebs, cattle class and the cheapest possible using mainstream airlines. One I remember from Lagos, Nigeria to London which has a direct flight with BA and others was cheaper to go Lagos-Cairo-Dubai-Frankfurt-Heathrow. Shocked

Madness.
