Any Readly users on here?

I spend like £10-£15 a month on mags (not that kind). Is Readly good? Does reading it off of an ipad make a difference to you. £7.99 per month seems cheap by comparison.

I read a lot of books and I can quite happily read them on a computer, tablet or kindle.

However magazines for some reason I do not enjoy reading on an electronic device. Maybe it's the layout but I just do not enjoy it compared with reading the paper magazine.

Weird.

If you are an Amazon Prime member you can download some magazines for free and see if you are happy reading them on your ipad.

Otherwise try something like https://freemagspot.unblocked.vc/ if you can be bothered to fight your way through the adverts and popups.

I think the difference between books and magazines read on a screen is that typically in a book the content is purely words, so can be reformatted for the form factor.

A magazine tends to have a "designed" layout, so it doesn't flow as well and you end up zooming in and out, scrolling left and right and up and down to see the page - at least on the ones I've seen.

I agree. Most books are simply pages of flat text designed to be read from top left to bottom right, which works fine on an electronic screen; whereas when you read a magazine your eye moves all over the place; there's text in boxes, running up and down columns; then there are pictures with captions etc; it's totally different. I really can't be doing with those 'electronic magazines' you get these days, where you have to grab the bottom of a page with a finger or mouse, and it gives a 'turning page' effect when it moves to the next screen. It wouldn't be so bad with a full magazine-size screen (think A3 or A4 iPad); except then the thing would be too cumbersome to use comfortably anyway.

I read my comics on an Ipad 2, think is close to an 10 inch screen and is fine, with a magazine as others said, depending on the lay out, you may find yourself zooming in and out a bit too much.

You can some free downloads for magazines, so I will try with a few of them to see if you are comfortable with it.
