|
|
I've been getting around to doing work on the house, just got a new boiler system fitted. Getting new lead alternative on the front porch roof. Now my next job is to do/get the chimney sorted. I've decided instead of actually getting plasterboard and putting that over. I'd rather get it plastered up and then just have the vent at the top, now the plastering I don't mind doing.
However a question for any builders on here or people that have done similar. What is the best way of adding a vent that won't cause too much of a draft in the open gap above.
Image of the fireplace below; old gas pipe is no longer connected.

Presumably you're not wanting to use the fireplace again (at least any time soon?)
If so, you want to cap the chimney on the roof, to stop rain getting down; but that needs a vent too, to allow airflow.
Cover the fireplace (with brick/plaster or plasterboard) and fit a vent something like this. It wants to be low down (just above skirting board level?) to avoid a leaving a dead space in the fireplace which could get damp.
EDIT: on re-reading, I'm not sure what you're wanting to achieve. Are you covering over the fireplace or leaving it open? ____________________ KC100->CB100N->CB250RS--------->DL650AL2->R1200RS->R1250RS |

Thank you all just to clarify I'm just leaving it open the flue vent sounds ideal. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS

As above cap the chimney of or fit a wire dome. You don't want a dead bird rotting in the blocked-up fireplace. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'
