I did the same, but for a loft conversion so I think it's more a "I'm having works done, you ok with it?"

You can change the details of your own property on the land registry for around £40. I don’t know if this is one of those details, but if you have the consent of your neighbour, I can’t imagine it being worth a ton of legal work.
That said, you’re not paying for the benefit now, you’re paying for future buffoonery between future owners of the houses and the legal complications that would be caused if you tried to sell up without everything being legit.
