Hi everyone, I have a 66-plate Sinnis Shuttle 125.
The headlights (low & high) do not work. They are supposed to come on automatically when the engine is started and go off after switching off.

Battery fine
All of the earths appear to be ok
Switch ok
All other lights work

When power is applied from another source through the loom from switch terminal they light up!

So it’s just a case of getting power to them? I’m not sure if there is something that regulates this tucked away somewhere which powers them when engine is running...?

Any ideas would be great!
Thanks

It'll either be the earth from the bulb or the power to the switch. Are there any fuses on the bike?

One main fuse next to battery, working.
If it was bulb earth they wouldn’t light up when power applied from a separate source, which they do :/

So you're not getting power to the switch or the switch isn't passing power to the lights.

Corrosion inside the switch on the terminals?

Multimeter is your friend.

If it was the main fuse, you would get no power past that fuse, that's why they call it the main fuse. Thumbs Up

UncleBFester might be right. Do you have a contact cleaner? Just spraying it inside the switch and moving it around a bit might help.

We aren’t getting power to the switch I think.
Switch works fine.

Power for all other lights comes from the battery no problem when ignition turned on.

You didn't mention the bulb was alright, try a different bulb. Not likely to be the issue, but hey, why not to try. Also check the plug for corrosion/oxidation (green/white stuff).

EDIT: Just a wild guess, could your issue be caused by damaged wiring? A missing grommet to the headlight, the wires rubbing, now shorting out? Thinking

Should have made that clearer, bulbs are ok. If we apply power to the switch using a piece of wire the headlights come on and the switch operates high / lo as it should.

Now we're getting somewhere. What type of charging system does your motorcycle have? Could it be that one phase of the alternator powers up the lights? That phase dying (or just corrosion/oxidation = mostly green/white stuff in the plug from the alternator) could cause what you're experiencing. Thinking
