Hi all,
My basic question is in the subject of this post, "can you swap and change ignition coils, as long as, say the new coil is off a similar bike and the same amount of pins etc."
Now for the long story, im currently working on a chinese 125 for a friend of mine, (better x-stream bt 125-20). Now im finding it very hard to find parts, even any info, on the bike at all. It currently has no spark, the wiring loom had a short, due to the starter switch casing falling apart, now that is fixed the bike is turning over, no spark. Plug has been replaced, cap has been replaced and now im onto the coil, i cant find enough info on the resistance of the coil to test it (i cant even find a picture of the damn thing), however i read up that the engine is a ripped off cbr 125 engine, however the current coil only has one pin, the cbr coil has two pins.so im wondering if can get hold of a coil that looks exactly the same in dimensions and pin type etc, if this would work as a replacement,
Best outcome for me is that somebody knows the resistance of a better bt125-20 coil, and can tell me,
Many thanks from a forum newbie

P.s. i know im going to get the usual "scrap it and get a honda" comments, but the bike was free and it gets a friend riding, and thats what its all about aii.

OK, so its NOT a CBR rip off, its air cooled and is a generic Chinese engine.

Get a photo of the current coil and compare it to one of these.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR8.TRC0.A0.H0.Xchinese+125+ignition+coil.TRS0&_nkw=chinese+125+ignition+coil&_sacat=0

It has likely been used on 90% of the chinese 125 commuter bikes before. It is also probably a 156 or 157 FMI engine, so again, that gives you wider scope to look at.

That, essentially. It's a single coil, 12V in, big jolt out, pretty much anything generic will do the job. I threw that orange one onto my 156FMI engine because "performance". Whistle
