I have a Kawasaki ER6F 2010 Model and the engine shut down on me the other day. I took the positive lead off the battery for a while and then put it back on again and the motor fired up and seems okay, however the FI light is constantly on.

I found out that you can earth a lead out located under the seat and it will make the FI light flash in order to give you the code, long flashes equals 10 and short flashes equals 1. It gave me a code of 22 as it done two long ones and two short ones, the problem is when referring to the manual the number 22 doesn't seem to exists, every other number but lol.

Any ideas??

Have you tried removing the FI bulb, cleaning the contacts, blowing gently on it, then smashing it to pieces and getting on with your life?

No, I can't find code 22 either. Sad

Oh, FI vehicles get proper mardy if the battery gets low, so I'd check that it's taking and holding a charge.

I agree 22 does not exist 21 & 23 does. Do not smash the bulb it might be needed for the new mot being rolled out were any light will be checked for correct operation. Know it's coming for cars March I believe. A fault with the dtc coming on and stopping the bike is rare. Therefore, logically you could reset. Take it for a ride my feeling is it a temperature thing that shuts it down, or if it really smart low oil or pressure. If it temperature o2 sensor. The only others apart from temperature that causes engine shutdown ecm could a wire vibrating causing intermittent contact or injection malfunction. Not an expert but suffered similar was o2 sensor took it out cleaned with carb cleaner and light went out. Not sure if cleaning or playing about with connector solved it, it works that all that matters.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the ignition stick coils with a multimeter and they seem fine. It would spark at first for the first 5 seconds or so then cut out again. When I took the battery lead off the first time round it and reconnected it, it was fine for a while a couple of days.

I will take into account what you have said and try some different things, maybe I'll try cleaning the 02 sensor and see if that works.
I have left the battery lead off again and will see if it will start tomorrow, I'm guessing that's the way to reset the OBE ?? I think in the end though I will have to get a dealer to plug in their computer and find the fault.

You need to have a dealer connect up a laptop and read and then clear the ECU.

I had a problem years ago on my ER6F 2008 model where if you started the bike on a cold morning at the top of a hill and dropped 200 foot by driving straight down the hill the bike would go into limp mode. The FI couldn't handle fast idle and an increase in air pressure but it didn't throw error codes or light up the FI light.

Just because the FI light comes on doesn't mean its an FI problem. An FI error shouldn't cause the bike to cut out, it should drop into limp mode. but the FI light can come on for example when the battry volatage drops.

We need some more details on the bike, mileage, modifications, condition of wiring around the headstock and under the tank where it frays away etc.

Right, I took the tank off again and noticed I didn't reconnect the IAT sensor lead when my engine quit on me the first time round.
Okay so now I'm back to the beginning thinking the FI light will still be on because of the first time the engine quit, however the FI light has now gone out all by it's self?, but now I'm still left wondering what the hell was the problem in the first place.
Perhaps by unplugging things and playing with the wires it's cured what ever problem it had, confused.com lol

Dodgy contact, now undodged? Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again. Do check your battery voltage though.
