"I am willing to fite a champion put up by the DVLA if they want to accept my challenge – but they must remember it is a fite to the death.

"The victor speaks in the name of God and justice so it is a reasonable enough way of sorting the matter out.

"I know I am in the right so I do not have anything to worry about. I am reasonably fit and not afraid of taking anyone on in a fite."

[He] was taken to court after failing to pay a £25 fine [sic] for not notifying the DVLA that his Suzuki 125 cc motorcycle was off the road.

A DVLA spokeswoman said: "We have never dealt with a request for trial by combat before. We are looking into the legal issues."

He'll be 77 now, they're clearly just biding their time, the villains.

For those wanting to give it a try, the last successful attempt appears to be 1818. The right to "Trial by Battel" appears to have been abolished in 1819 in some haste, somewhat bizarrely removing the right to appeal Murder, Treason, Felony and other Offences as a by-the-way. Eh?

Perhaps DVLA chose 'old age' as their lethal weapon.

Problem, they have to swear they've not had any enchantment, sorcery, or witchcraft, whereby the law of God may be abased, or the law of the Devil exalted.

I say we should never have repealed the Dipping Laws.

BREAKING NEWS......

It's now December 2002, and our hero has had his request denied and was fined £200 plus £100 costs (over a £25 fine for SORN failure)
