Yes. But it will be frustrating.

Vertically split crankcases you see.

Dowty washers on drain plugs help a lot.

if there's no oil under 'em there no oil in 'em Wink

also to add to stinkwheels comment, a lot of them use the breather tube as a crude Scotoiler so when static can end up with a little puddle

The Jubilee's four separate alloy rocker covers are prone to distortion and then not nipping their gaskets up. It puts more oil up to the top end than most Brit bikes, so there's scope for big leaks there.

old thread being brought up because turns out they're my uncles bikes at my granddads and he's only jus now after 25 years willing to let them go to me fully. collecting this Friday if my dad will drive me up

I wont get my money out doing a chop (idgaf that would be badass). I wont get my money out doing a restoration. So my thoughts are build it using as many stock parts as I have, and anything I don't have go down to the autojumbles to get some cheap period correct parts to finish the job. Keep one in the family and sell the other??? thoughts

jubile....uch a fe ! sorry juist could not resist !

They where a treu british classic.....failure !

enough, you are young, very young by the sounds of things, so use the experience, and it will be one hell of an experience what with ba, whit, bsf, bsp and all the other classics, not to mention special tools needed ( you may have to make these, so think about a local night model engineering class or similar, does your uncle have a lathe in the shed ??? ) !!

You will end up more experienced than the average joe on here......

Just get them home to a nice warm dry shed with electrics and a radio, a kettl;e and pee pot would also be good.

Remove the spark plugs and fill the cylinders with a mixture o0f oily petrol, other mixtures are available ( to home make rather than buy ) .

Practice exteme caution, do not be a bull at a gate and take your time !

These bikes/engine have been in hibbernation for years by the sounds of things so what if it takes you a week to actually get these engine to turn over valves can and do stick, open usually, meaning a stuck open valve meeting a rising piston ( or an opening and closing exhaust or inlet valve ) equals "its fucked now !"

Whilst the cylinders are soaking, read up on the model and the 4 strokes, ful;ly understand what is meant by stuck vales and the possible implications/dangers....some on here will say they never stick and just cannot "tangle", ha, its not their bike is it !
at least 2 weeks away......

Learn all you can about this era of bike before you go charging in, the info is out there, unlike some of the monthly "comics"..........

Take your time, learn and gather data/info, do not break anything and dont be afraid to ask............enjoy.

hare and tortoiuse....... :karma:

Sounds good. Don't be in a hurry or you'll increase your expenses, and remember that these things do go together without cutting, filing or grinding things off, or bending them. You WILL want a book of some kind, especially if these machines are in boxes. There're some on eBay at the moment if there isn't one with the bits ("maintenance manual and instruction book" looks a good start). Pictures, here, or about 20 squiddicks on joining the owners' club when you are ready to reconstruct them will also be useful.

EDIT: It's possible that some parts from some other bikes fit your "prospects".

The only way you are going to make money off it is having it running and sell it as is. I mean, its cool its been your family so long, I would totally want to keep it and just ride/maintain it. (if you have the space)

The lowly BSA bantam had a vertically split crankcase as well, but that was a 2 stroke and had a built in gearbox too, so 2 chambers to keep oil/air tight.

Even some "modern" honda's etc have vertically split crankcases, but they have gaskets rather than machined surfaces with "registers" relying on "dope" ( gasketgoo, osotite and other brand names, "honda" and "yamaha" bond etc being modern names to cungga with ) .

Dowty washers will have their place/use and agree with that.

Does the op's uncle etc. have a book on this bike and any parts cataloques with exploded views out there?

The uncle would have a real kick seeing his old bike running and being used, he may even want one back !! :D :karma:

Was the question regarding your previous experience with building bikes ever answered? I have a feeling I know exactly how this is gonna end.

nearly finished my first ground up build, and I've rebuilt what was needed on my mopeds when they broke down a couple times. that's all the experience I got. but I'm interested and it wont be stripped and left to rot. If that was how you suspected it was 'gonna end'

took a stock Honda h100, was starting to make a café racer but most of those are crap and made by hipsters who don't want to build bikes just want to look cool. so decided to build a chop

bought a welder, after practise welded a rigid rear end
bought an old fuel tank off a 50s lawnmower and cut and welded it to work as a classic cylindrical oil tank

after buying many second hand tanks and none of them working as they should i took one of the Chinese cruiser tanks and cut it up and welded it into the shape i wanted

built a set of bars for it designed for lane splitting

currently working on the wiring making sure its simplified as much as possible

next on the list is making the foot controls, then its time to pull apart for final welding up, etc etc paint and stuff then a top end rebuild with an Athena 125cc kit, race reed valve, polish and port, perhaps flat slide carb will make at least 15bhp

so yeh just a small first ground up build before i tackle the nortons. I'm also building a larger garage right now nearly done so i can work on these in a more professional and really, better way for the restoration

Rolling Eyes

Aren’t choppers built “just to look cool”?

Sounds like you’ve made a perfectly ok H100 worse than stock.
