I'm trying to track down a game I had a demo disc of... not sure if it was PS1 or PC but all I really remember is it was a space game, I think it was 2D and you were this green triangle shaped spaceship that could shoot things.

I was addicted to this demo, never did play the full game...

I can never remember the name of one that used to be on the Jagex website. You start with a blob on a board and the aim was to expand and consume all the opposing blobs. Sort of like draughts, but blobby.

Was it the one where all you could do was rotate? Asteroids.

Was it set inside the computer? Was it called Operation: innerspace by any chance?

Did it have a female voice that said phrases like "Let me guide you in"?

There was a game where you are an anime character and you had to toss them down a running track and, using ragdoll physics, try and get the longest record.
Not sure if it was licensed characters or not. It was a browser-based game. Probably Flash.

I don't think the spaceship was green unless it was different on the computer compared with the arcade game

I spent a fortune on that when I was young. Embarassed

I'm not 100% sure but that rings a bell...

It wasn't innerspace, I "think" it was a PS1 demo or something and I don't know why I think that.

Did they do demo discs for the PS1? As I've had a PC for 25 years constantly, used to play GTA on it back in the day so that's why I'm not sure if it was a PC demo disc as I did used to get a lot of them from game magazines.

I just looked at "Asteroids" and it was possibly a variation of this but I distinctly remember being a bright green coloured triangular spaceship (solid in colour) and I think you shot small white dots out.

It must have been some kind of twist on the original as I had it on a demo disc... which would have most likely been PC but I'm sure they did PS1 demo discs too?

The physics were very smooth and free flowing, quite "floaty" if that makes any sense? Also, I don't think you stayed center screen, I think you could jet around and it moved / changed like a scroller up / down.

It's also possible that it never made it to a full game and only ever existed as a demo on a disc, making it much harder to find again.

Holy shit I found it... was typing all sorts in, scrolling through hundreds of google images and clicking on similar images and randomly stumbled across it.

I was right, it was a PS1 demo disc and it was part of that Net Yaroze specialised model for people to create indie games for the PS1, which came on a demo disc with one of the PS game magazines.

I thought the spaceship was bright green but it wasn't.

Gravitation it was called - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmkmhG2mCHo

I remember battling my brother on this as well : https://youtu.be/a-SzBfv1wEY?t=2m19s

Well, that guy (James Shaughmessy) worked for Codemasters for years and now owns an independent game studio that has remade it for PC / Steam - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay4MpdCsSu8

It's also on Android and iOS as Super Grav

Anyway... super addictive gameplay back then, especially 2 player

That does look like an improved asteroids type game, especially reminiscent of the way the spaceship moved.

There is a game on the Amiga called 'Gravity Force' which this looks very much inspired by.

If OPs game was a PS1 "demo" it was probably a freebie indie game, remember the Playstation Net Yaroze?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Net_Yaroze

Once that was out, lots of magazines back in the day, had cover discs which had both demos' of up coming major releases, plus some indie games, many of which were quite good.

Quote:
Sony set up an online forum where users could share their homemade games, swap programming tips, and ask questions of Sony technical support staff.[1][4] Many games made by hobbyists on the Net Yaroze were released on various demo discs that came along with the Official UK PlayStation Magazine (and other official PlayStation magazines around Europe) from 1997 to 2004. The last Official UK PlayStation Magazine issue, number 108, featured a compilation with many Net Yaroze games. A regular PlayStation disc, featuring a number of user-developed games, was produced by SCEE and sent to PAL-zone Yaroze owners.

Some of these games were based on arcade classics such as Mr. Do and Puzzle Bobble, while others (e.g. Time Slip) were illustrations of a novel concept. The Game Developer UK Competition, organized by Scottish Enterprise in collaboration with the Scottish Games Alliance, Sony and Edge in 1998, accepted Net Yaroze entries; the overall winner was Chris Chadwick for his game Blitter Boy – Operation: Monster Mall. An updated version of Time Slip was later released for Xbox Live Arcade in February 2011 and Windows in January 2012.[6] Some of the system's developers moved into the games industry; Fatal Fantasy and Terra Incognita developer Mitsuru Kamiyama became director of the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series at Square Enix.[7]

Contrary to popular belief, the Net Yaroze was neither the first nor only official consumer console development kit. The PC-Engine Develo predates it, and the WonderWitch followed it. The GP32 can run user programs out of the box. Finally, many earlier consoles (Astrocade, Famicom) offered limited programming capabilities with BASIC dialects.

Net Yaroze had no direct successors on subsequent PlayStation platforms, but Sony's Linux for PlayStation 2 and YA-BASIC offered a similar feature to hobbyists and amateur developers on the PlayStation 2 console.

Gravity Force took its inspiration from Mars Lander on the Acorn Electron.

Cheers mate but I found it a couple posts back up Smile It was indeed part of Net Yaroze Thumbs Up

On a side note, I never even knew that your username was the title of a film from 1971 until about 2 weeks ago when I saw it on a site I use and was like, "How the fuck have I missed a film from Lucas like this and never even seen or heard of it until now?".

I haven't seen it yet but I just clocked your username just now Laughing

Back To Reality - A game on the Amstrad that for years eluded me until I stumbled across it on an emulator site.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw-f2L7lnxs

This used to freak me out, the loneliness of this dude walking around this space station on his own and the music as well.

there was a game i used to play on either the spectrum or Aimga.

you where on a space ship full of robots.
there were security robots with the number 999.
you started off as 001 robot and you could take over other robots by playing a mini logic/circuit type game.

im sure it was a thing and not just my failing memory.
