Possible attempted theft??

Hi Guys,

dont know if anyones familiar with the new 2017 fireblade but a couple of days ago I have noticed the cap that goes over the central axisle has been pried off with a screwdriver should I be worried as it doesn't look like this could just fall off?

That's known as a "top yoke."

How can you tell it's been removed with a screwdriver? I see no markings.

Your steering lock looks to be in perfect shape, if they were going to screwdriver anything I don't see why they'd remove a rubber cover. Probably, in my view, just fallen off as bike is new.

Depends where you live but with bikes like that if they're going to go for it then they're not going to do half a job.

Probably worth looking at Pragmasis chains and locks while we're on the subject since you've got something of value and clearly think its been poked at already.

Either someone needed one and pinched yours or maybe someone was sitting on your bike (as people tend to) and pulled it off?

How does someone own such a fine motorcycle and not know what a yoke is?

Either way, get a replacement cover. Honda put it there for a reason.

Once had someone steal the nut inside the frame on my ZX10R years ago when I went in to a shop for 20 minutes.

How did someone even have the tool with them to specifically remove that nut?

I used to own a P1 impreza. Some shit stole the P1 badge off the boot. That'll be 100 quid thanks said the dealer. Limited edition and all that. It was a 6 inch by 4 piece of plastic. I felt like I'd been done roughly by some other 6 inch plastic thing when I handed over my notes. They didn't even stick it on for me.

With regards to the OP - I should imagine the top yoke would be a very strange place for byklife to have a go at if trying to liberate you from your pride and joy. Far more likely to be extensive crow bar, screwdriver, hammer type markings if they have. Someone had (another) go at my 650 last month. The mechanic I took her to to get fixed reckons they put a scaffolding pole in the front wheel and tried to lever the steering lock off like that. I came out in the morning to ride a motorbike whose front wheel was going straight but the handlebars were pointing about 10 degrees off to the right.

Anyway, take it as a bit of a nudge from lady luck. You have yourself a highly sought after bike and can now expect no end of stress every morning when you look out the window to see if anyone has had a go overnight. And have a go they will, especially if you are in London and don't have the thing locked in a garage with two armed guards out front and an angry Alsatian called Boris patrolling the inside.
