These may be of interest.
I'd be inclined to think that a plug would sheer off before it rounded off but you never know.

Agreed, seems a good way to land up with a tube of steel thread stuck in a cylinder head. There again, worth a gamble if you wee going to have to take the head off anyway.

The other one I've seen are metrinch sockets which do grip the flats and cover a wide range of hex sizes. I've never used them but they are reputedly very good if you have cheap/poorly made fittings with iffy sizing that are a poor fit in conventional spanners/sockets.

He is quite sickly but he's also quite thorough which is good for the layman.

I'm just wondering if a hex key could be designed in the same way.

The prick keeps pimping shit products out and pretends to know a lot more than he does. Guesses a lot.

Won't watch anything of his.

Can we have a "Delboy" warning?

Should be mentioned if anyone was thinking of copying his technique, he was using his torque wrench with one hand on the head of it, which is wrong. You're supposed to be measuring the deflection between the handle and the head. By holding onto the head of the wrench and pushing against it as you pull on the handle, you're measuring the strength of your arms as well as the actual tightening torque

Hands on the handle only.

I bought a set of the sockets and combi spanners about 20 years ago and wouldn't be without them. They've got me out of trouble more times than I care to remember. Very Happy

I would assume that the little grooves up the flats must make it act like a ring spanner that has loads and loads of 'angles', which grip on any surface adjacent to them as pressure is applied

idiot-bashing aside, they've presumably re-branded what they used to call "Totaldrive" sockets.

Work well enough, not sure I'd call them magic though.

Pretty much why i stopped watching his stuff, there is a few videos online pointing out that he makes up a lot of stuff up as he goes and doesn't know anywhere near as much as he makes out.

I have these by draper and a cheap looking set too from ebay as the photo below.

I personally think they should all be made like this.

Often called 'wall drive' - I've been going on about these for years Smile.

I've got the draper 149 piece set which is a nice comprehensive metric-only set, almost all wall drive - way better value for money than the big Halfords one to my mind.

Not only the solution to getting most rounded fasteners off - but also to not rounding them in the first place!

The Sealey design looks a bit different, actually:

Whether better or not, is another matter!

As it goes I picked a set of them up the other day half price at Screwfix - however, I'd prefer not to get to the point of needing them in the first place!

I'm with you on that but a deep set rounded off plug needs something special.

Tru-dat, now I'm thinking of buying a set, as my spannering always seems to go wrong when the shops have all shut and I need the vehicle to get to work the next day.

That's what I've got, off the back of a recommendation on here. Only had to use them a few times but they work great.

Agree.
I've used them to successfully remove knackered deep set socket cap head screws and you don't get more round than that.
