It comes down this, it's not difficult, it's not expensive, it's not complicated, why wouldn't you? Same for complex passwords, common sense. |
It also makes is impossible to recover data if the drive can't be booted.
vice wrote: | @mpd72 - Be honest though, you didn't come here for advice though did you? You just came to moan about shit you don't understand less than a month before it's due to be enforced. |
I came here to point out how vague and typically EU this legislation is. Even "experts" can't seem to give definitive answers as to what applies and doesn't. When pressed, they include things which quite clearly are completely unnecessary to protect, such as freely available company names and invoice addresses.
As I don't hold or process user data personally and only hold invoicing addresses for companies, it really won't be very difficult for me to secure the very little, extremely non-sensitive data, which I do hold.
How some "experts" are interpreting the regulations is comical though and only goes to highlight the point I was making. It's all open to interpretation to all "natural" persons.
As for "all data must be held in the EEA", really? So this is the end of the Internet then. We can only login to sites which hold all user data in the EEA. I mean come on, be serious here. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Loling at an IT 'expert' who appears to be unable to run his nose, never mind a business. Worked for PwC eh? As the cleaner? ____________________ Mpd72: I can categorically say i’m Brighter than that, no matter how I come across on here.

OK, well, going from my last note. if you can't tell what a natural person is, and if you haven't grasped that, whilst the cloud data doesn't have to be stored in the EEA, that data, no matter where it's stored, is still covered by the regulations. I'm glad I'm not 1 of your customers. The regulations themselves are pretty clear, and simply involve common sense, and, to be fair, are what organisations, large or small, should already be compliant with anyway. Oh, and the comment you made about facebook, by creating an account with facebook, you are signing up to their terms and conditions, and hence, giving them consent. I imagine this process may become more robust, but as I have no interest in facebook, it's not something I'm likely to find out anytime soon.
I do have 2 questions though..
1. As you run your own IT business, why are you trying to get business critical information regarding GDPR (Oh, the definition of which has been around since 2015 or 2016, can't quite remember the exact year) on a motorbike forum, surely you have peers in IT or even the local chamber of commerce who can offer professional advice.
2. As you have had a least 2 years to get this sorted, and yet still haven't, why are you whinging on here, and not getting your business gdpr compliant, seeing as though it's due to come into force soon. ____________________ Beware what photos you upload, or link to on here, especially if you have family members on them |

I wish you "resident experts" would make your minds up...

This is the worst part of the IT industry. Every "natural person" (you feckin what?) with half an idea of what they're talking about, thinks they're a sodding expert.
This thread and it's poor, vague, copy and paste advice perfectly represents that, as does the conflicting "expert advice" from our resident EU legislation "experts". ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Well, one of you is wrong because you're contradicting each other.

I came on here asking if anyone on here could make hear or tail of it. Clearly not, all we've had a people playing IT Billy Big Bollocks, with incorrect, conflicting information or just copying and pasting vague waffle from other sites.
I asked because to everyone I've spoken to in the industry, every piece of official information is so open to interpretation, that it will be almost impossible to police. It's as clear as mud as I keep saying.
Just look at this waffling EU shite...
Quote: | An identifiable natural person
is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person. |
Anyone know any living person on the planet to which this definition would not apply?
So a "natural" person, as the resident expert likes to keep using, is someone who can be identified by a name. We need a new term for this FFS!?
This is what the entire legislation is worded as. Why? it's fecking nonsense and as vague as can be. Watching armchair experts thinking they understand the wording of it all is laughable. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

The one recurring thing about Donk is that he clearly has no comprehension of legality. Which is why it'll be so much fun when he starts panicking when any correspondence about his defamation and hate mongering, and lack of compliance with legal safeguards, start dropping through his letterbox.
