I'm after getting a set of new tyres for the CBR. I wondered what you might recommend?
Sizes are:
Front: 120/70-ZR17
Rear: 180/55-ZR17
Use:
Sunny commutes (dry)
Occasional weekend hoots (dry)

I don't plan on any longer distance rides or commuting every day. I'd imagine I'll be doing less than 3-400 miles per month.

Also, unlikely to ride 2-up and I always have the large top box on.

I suppose ideally, I'm looking for confidence inspiring grip over long lasting.

That's what I thought based on what I've been reading on here. Looks like a pair can be had for under £200 delivered.
Thanks mate

And for similar levels of dry grip and outstanding wet grip: Pilot Road 3.

Slightly different profile, but very much as confidence inspiring as the Pilot Powers.

I bought pr4's because all weather commuting. Well not in snow or icy conditions these days so much.

In the rain Thumbs Up
Warm up time Thumbs Up

Having used them on dry sunny days can't say I was disappoint.
I don't hang about.

I would also agree with Michelin PR3s.I have them not only on my FJ1200 but also on my FZR-R and the back of my R1.

A friend first used them on his 2007 FireBlade and now has them on his Honda SP2.

PR3s are still available and it would appear that Michelin are still making them,as only a few months ago a friend ordered some and the date of manufacture was only one month previous to that.

As for PR4s,a friend had them on his V-Strom 1000 and the front was worn quite strangely in the shoulders...much like a 50p coin,as some others have described. But I have yet to see a similar wear pattern on the older PR3 front.

Have cbr6 2003. PR3's are not worth considering, PR4 is just better. PR4's are good, best for cold winter and wet but also good year round. Front profile is slow turning, takes effort to tip the bike in. Roadtec 01 is also good. Go with these if you will be using the same tyres next winter.

If not, or, if you are happy to swap it off in November, I much prefer a Racetec on the front. Profile is much faster turn. Perfectly good this time of year and equally good in the wet. I get about 6k miles from them commuting.
I have not tried a pilot power, but from what Ive read the racetec / super corsa are better.

Two generations old, will be old stock, less grip, and they will 50p much quicker than the pr4, which has took 9000 miles to happen on mine. The 4 is also cheaper , atleast when I looked. The 3 has no advantage.

What isn't ever old stock?

Wore mile over 7500 miles and never went wanky shape, PR3 deals can be found for less.

However, tyres are preference and I'll never have anything like them again.

Biike Doc said they can supply and fit a pair of Dunlop GPR300's for £200. Has anyone had an experience with this tyre?

Otherwise I'm sold on the PR3. I've probably got another month until I need to get them done.

I have Bridgestone's on my CBF500, they are okay but my next set of tyres will be the PR4's, so many fellow couriers swear by them.

Highly recommend the Roadtec 01s. I would say they're the perfect tyre for the UK climate. I used pr4 gts before and rate them too.

If you do highway miles on it then I recommend the B'stone T30 Evos.
