I've watched 2 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, one MotoGP, 3 years ago, and one way back in the 80's, before it was called MotoGP, (it was the year Barry Sheene made his last GP appearance there).
As a bike racing spectator Silverstone was garbage back in the 80's and it was still garbage 3 years ago!
You're too far away from the track, it's too exposed to the wind and it's way too expensive!
With any luck, after this debacle they'll drop Silverstone from the calendar altogether.
IIRC, it was going to be dropped and only reappeared because of the Circuit of Wales fiasco!

Some of the grandstands give an alright view, but they're way too expensive to justify paying for.

Donnington seems to be the only alternative ever touted, I've got really got memories of Brands Hatch WSBK in the 90s though. In any case, there are a couple of viable potential alternatives if the will to change is there. I don't think it is though!

We'll end up losing the GP in this country.

Laughing What a fucking joke. All that money spent on resurfacing and the drainage is what kills the GP.. Rolling Eyes

I prefer BSB anyway, the racing is closer and the tracks are more interesting.

Silverstone is the biggest loser here, the cost of refunding everyone after it has been laid on, they are struggling anyway financially, this may be a serious nail in their coffin.

I doubt anyone will get a refund until the investigation finds the contractors work to be substandard and then any refund will come from whatever Silverstone claw back from that.

If they want to have any of their reputation left intact then they need to refund everyone without delay

People who paid for hotels and suchlike are still going to be pissed at them and that's a trickier one to put right.

On the plus side, if Silverstone stops being the 'flagship' circuit in the UK then the price of trackdays there will become cheaper. Laughing

Fenati, NO!!

What was he thinking?

Should be banned for the rest of the season, flogged and then sacked.

That's a proper ban that is.

He's got form for this sort of thing. He wants kicking out of the GP paddock. He doesn't seem to be getting the message.

Silverstone have said they are going to give all race day attendees a refund for that day's ticket.

I suspect the resurfacing work was fine when it was completed, but the subsequent near-on three months of unbroken hot sunshine had some kind of adverse affect on it, hence the bumps.

Two race ban for fenati! Shocked

Way too lenient, considering he's done it before, I can't believe he's still in the paddock, lifetime ban AFAIC!

Lifetime ban might be a little steep, but I'd have thought the rest of the season to be fair.

I'll be surprised if Forward still want him next year mind, must be some sort of clause in the contract with regards to behaviour of the rider and I'm sure they're questioning whether he's the sort they want linked to them next year.

He won't need a ban.
Sponsors won't touch him in the big leagues.

Good motoGP race I thought. Ok not the finest of races but enough to keep me interested.

Italian race license revoked...he can appeal.

A lifetime ban? Maybe, however other riders have done similar...Canet earlier this year. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/motorsport/5990725/moto3-madness-as-angry-rider-aron-canet-chases-rival-makar-yurchenko-in-practice-and-smashes-both-of-them-off-the-track/

He claims to have "retired" from racing:-

https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/romano-fenati-video-retirement-crash-stefano-manzi-moto2-sacked-contracts-cancelled-a8532616.html

He also claims:-
Quote:
that Manzi was to blame for his reaction as he rode into him “three times” that left a black strip on his leathers and helmet from making contact with his tyres.

Unfortunately this photo doesn't back that up, his lid seems to be without a Manzi sized tyre mark:-
