I'm not especially interested in the apres-race boozing, etc and I'm aware that accommodation would be hard to come by, but I would love to glimpse the racing. So would a day trip to the TT be a practical proposition?

Yes if you fly over. Ferry takes 3 hours if weather isn't bad so you'd spend 6 hours of your day on the boat.

You'd be best spending your day in Douglas around the grandstand and paddock.

You won't want to go home!

There's a group on FB and someone has done just that. Booked an early morning ferry (not sure what day), and ferry back about 9pm-ish.

Let's hope they're aware enough to not get trapped inside the course. Very Happy

Done it a few times. Fly over get the bus up to Douglas and grandstand, paddock etc. as getting to any other vantage point may not be possible.
If it rains then game is over so be prepared for that scenario.

The bus service is good now, you can get to virtually any of the main vantage points on the course!
