I bought a new rear shock for my CBR. It now stands almost vertical on the side stand and I always think it'll fall over. So I use the centre stand a lot.

I thought so why not buy a used side stand cut a couple inches out of it and then replace it with the shorter one.

Does anybody see any flaws in my logic?

Plus how much would I have to cut off in cm?

Thanks

First thoughts, does this affect steering geometry?

Second thoughts, have you tried adding preload?

An adjustable side stand will save guesswork.

Heating it up until it bends would be easier. Doesn't get round the steering geometry problem though. I've lowered the strumpet by an inch at the back and it hasn't caused any real issues with the stand.

How much lower is the rear end?

Take a file or mini-grinder and grind the stop away a couple of mm at a time so the stand swings forwards more. This will not only cause the bike to lean over but also reduce the risk of it ever rolling off the stand.

It's an almost-essential mod for the Hayabusa which are prone for sidestand mishaps.

The stop on the stand. 😁

There should be a thick part of the stand and the frame.

Why not just fit an aftermarket adjustable stand?
