Proper job haha.Tho fucking hell, its mental when you think phone cameras are at the point where you cna be fingerprinted by a picture.

Ahhhh gloves are for "fitters" the dont fix things replace them dicks you usually find in dealerships.
I dont trust fitters, they tend to be shit mechanics.

Well truthfully, gloves protect your hands.

For many reasons.

There are lots more dicks who don't wear protection.

There is absolutely no need to have 'mechanic's' paws in the modern world.

Really.

I bought one of these a few years back and have used it with success a number of times:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heavy-Duty-Chain-Splitter-Riveting-Breaker-Vice-Tool-For-Motorcycle-Bike-CHB001/172211013191?_trkparms=aid%3D555019%26algo%3DPL.BANDIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20151005190705%26meid%3D021c8c14cc1548308801e3232572be12%26pid%3D100506%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26%26itm%3D172211013191&_trksid=p2045573.c100506.m3226

I tend to grind the head off the old pins with a dremel tool (using one of the little grinding stones does it easily)

However...
I did manage to bend the pin the last time I used it. I think I must have not ground down far enough.

To push out pins it is easier to start the push using a short 'pushing' pin.
The short pin is less likely to bend (and break).

The issue is that as pressure is increased any mis-alignment allows the tool to move off centre.

Long pins exaggerate the angle of mis-alignment.

Short pins reduce or negate the mis-alignment.

This is how track chain pins are pushed in/out on a digger. They can take over 100 tons of force to start the removal and to finalise the installation.

Buy a duplicate pin and cut flat.

It has to be dead square or it can slide off.

Get the pin moving using the short pin then swap for the longer pin.

Less drama.

I bought one of these kits by Motion-Pro about 30 years ago and has been used about 35 times without any problems, not only on my chain but on friends chains as well.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOTORCYCLE-BIKE-CHAIN-BREAKER-SPLITTER-RIVETING-TOOL-HEAVY-DUTY-RIVET-REPAIR-SET/332197286271?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49130%26meid%3Da1db39b0efe543c0b3ba9863a27e9015%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D172211013191%26itm%3D332197286271&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1

My only problem was when I stupidly loaned it to someone that I know who did not bother to read the instructions first.I had to buy another pin seperately so as to be able to use it again.

(Note to self...never load tools to people)

My brother (bless him) borrows my tools.

Always brings them back (if he does bring them back) coverered in whatever he was doing with them. Shocked

I hide my shit from him now.

Brand New Dremel over £100 worth I used it once. I found it in it;s bag covered in plaster dust and the tool still in the chuck battery flat. Shocked

Brand New Bosch 850w drilling machine returned full of concrete and drill bit in the key-less chuck. Shocked
And white emulsion.

Ladders? I have lost two step ladders to my sibling.

But....

He does come over to the house and cut the grass when I am away. Wub

grind the heads off the old soft link with the wife's dremel, shove a flat blade screwdriver in the chain sideways and pop the top plate off, then the link, cable tie the new and old chains together and pull through and then rivet, have done a few now and it's an easy 20 minute job
