Not sure if this would belong here on in the section of workshop.

Does anyone carry latex/nitrile gloves for when they inevitably break down away from home or do they just go bare skinned. My new bike came with a tool kit (which i hope not to use) but if I do break down would it be useful to carry some gloves which arn't specific motorcycle gloves for maintenance?

Much Appreciated

Did you really sign up to the forum just to ask if it's OK to carry some gloves in your toolbox?

Don't you normally wear a pair of gloves when riding?

I do but i'd rather not get them dirty with whatever im working on. for example i don't want brake fluid on my gloves which will then go onto either myself, grips or anything i touch. i'd rather use a pair of disposable nitrile gloves.

Carry some if you think they might be useful, it's not as if they're bulky or heavy so just put them under the seat with the tool kit thing.

Ste. personally i agree with you, they arn't bulky or heavy it's just trying to find space for them. my bike doesn't have an 'underseat' it has a fairing which you take off and it is where the battery goes as well as toolkit. not much space in there if I remember. it is a 2018 ys125

I have a pair of THESE for working on the bikes/cars

yes theyre similar to bike gloves, but as OP said, I don't want grubby shit on my grips/etc needlessly. They are tough, comfortable, and cheap.

How does this even warrant being asked as a question?

Yes. If you want them, have them. They take up virtually no room.

Ah, but do you have any back pockets? Because it would also be possible to store a pair of nitrile gloves in there, too. I knew someone who did that once, and he said it worked very well.

Great idea. Because I reckon a whole box would be much harder to store somewhere on the bike than just a few.

Good luck with it, hope things work out ok for you Thumbs Up

According to David’s profile, he aspires to be a motorcycle mechanic.

He then comes on to BCF, asks if others pack nitrile gloves for working on their bikes, but, BUT...his real quandary is where to store them!?

Fuck me, I’d hate to be one of his tutors. Can you imagine the questions he asks?

Doh!

There's nothing wrong with asking questions. and yes I do aspire to be a motorcycle mechanic. but i would have gloves at home. im talking about on the move when i don't have easy access xD.
And i ask my tutors reasonable questions such as why do pistons have a little circular hole in the top of them.

I find the disposable gloves ok for certain tasks or keeping nasty or poisonous stuff off your skin, but they are no good for general spannering like changing wheels, or working in sharp corners or accessing nuts inside frame rails etc

This is because they rip easily and get torn to shreads by anything sharp. You can forget wire brushing rusty parts or grinding or similar operations. For general working on the bike or working on anything, I like the black sensiflex style gloves. They also keep your hands a bit warmer in cold conditions, and they are washable too.

Are the gloves you need to transport stretchy enough to put over your head? You might look like a chicken, but that’s a small price to pay for clean fingernails.
