On my way home yesterday I spotted a guy on a moped with a mesh jacket, shorts and flip flops.

Granted he was only travelling along past kings cross station when I saw him but I couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of him trying to drive his bike in future without any feet or legs. I also spotted someone on an old Bmw 1100 in the morning doing 60 along embankment wearing a t shirt.

So is it acceptable to dress down to this extent in the hot weather or does it mark you down as a prat?

Whilst I don’t agree with his choice of words, I do agree with the sentiment.

It’s acceptable to wear whatever you like. If the guy wants to wear shorts and flip flops riding a ‘ped, that’s his choice and therefore perfectly acceptable.

Besides, it won’t go any faster than a pushbike and I doubt you’ve ever bemoaned bicyclists for daring to ride in Lycra shorts on the grounds of safety.

Leave them to it, I say.

I couldn't give a shit what people wear, the only thing that makes me confused is all the gear and a flip lid but it's flipped up... Neutral

Otherwise yeah, I've ridden in shorts and t-shirt and would continue to do so if I didn't have to join a motorway every day.

Equally, if you are offended by a response perhaps posting threads on forums is not for you? Further, if other people’s attire vexes you or gives you cause to judge them, maybe going outside is not for you.

I'm at ATGATT kinda guy, although I've been known to wear normal jeans when it's mad hot.

I have a flip-front helmet, but it makes me feel exposed riding with it flipped up. I quite like my manly jawline intact.

I don't care what other people wear. Wear what you want Very Happy

No legs.... drama queen. Its a moped, at most hes going to get scratched up. hes got a 28mph top end and i can accelerate faster on a push bike.

20 c here yesterday i was wearing boots helmet gloves... then shorts and t shirt. It was damned hot and i was just enjoying the weather with a lazy ride.
Far as im concerned if you are sticking to slow roads it makes zero difference.

Wear what your want.Ride what you want. How you want.

Massive apologies to those whose sensibilities were so offended.

Everyone is indeed free to do what they want . I guess I just wanted to know what everyone else does to keep cool in the summer and how much you compromise on your usual level of safety gear. That just sounds a bit dull.

For riding round town it's not really that much of an issue. Helmet, probably gloves and shoes that aint flip flops and you're good to go.

Used to ride in a tee all the time when I was a yoot. Last time I checked I wasn't deaded.

Do a lot of motorway mileage these days so I'm a bit better dressed for that.

Many food delivery twats are just wearing their Arai helmet with t-shirt, shorts and trainers.. Since these morons ride like they stole it they are going to suffer serious road rash...

Personally I wear a summer Jacket with the inner lining removed, it's got the armour in the jacket itself so top half okay. On the legs, Kevlar Jeans which is far safer than the regular jeans I used to wear.

Keeping cool is next to impossible unless you are riding at a decent speed with a cool breeze. Soon as you have to stop at traffic lights you start to cook.

Didn't realise we had a dress code, I don't really have teh legs fo shorts !! But this week, I've been riding with an open face helmet, summer gloves, t-shirt, or summer jacket & Aldi's finiest bike jeans Smile

Personally, I don't give a flying fig what anybody else where's, who cares, and, more to the point why should they care?

I was riding my bike around Cyprus last week, way hotter than it ever gets in the UK, no fuks were given!
For your edification, mesh jacket, vest, jeans, lightweight boots!

The reason you can't keep cool is, the temperatures over the last couple of days are the exception to the UK's, utterly, miserable climate, your body is, simply, not used to it.
The only way you'll keep cool is flip flops and a pair of shorts! Wink

HTH!

That's true, this little heatwave we are having has come early and very sudden, been a real shock to the system which makes it worse.

I can't wear anything less than I described in my earlier post, can't exactly walk into an office with a package in my hand looking like I've just come from the beach. Profession image you see,
