Last night filtering through traffic, got to the last row of cars till the traffic lights. Since this was the first day I had had mirrors on my bike for about a month I wasn't too good with the judgement and knocked both off the mirrors clean off. Instinct took over and I jumped the light just as my friend mentioned that there was a police van behind us at the lights.

Long story short, van followed us but I went through some alleys so lost him.

What will happen if they got my plate?
I know it's very minor but would be nice to know to settle my mind.

Cheers
Jan

Assuming this is not a wnid up I think you might have got away with it. If they had done a PNC check they will have gone to your house. The fact that they have not suggests that they aren't bothering or didn't get the number plate.

If they see you again and the driver of the car has made a complaint, expect a reckless driving charge, failure to stop and failure to report an accident.

Failure to stop on both counts, signal and for the Police.

If you are a new rider you could well have lost your license on the 6 point rule.

If they did not use the siren, blues etc then I guess he'd not face running away from police, just red light and failing to stop/report an accident.

Running red light, failure to stop after an accident, possible dangerous driving (filtering when too narrow to fit), failure to stop for the police,. I'd say your quite fucked if they've got your plate and the running from them and making them do lots of work will have pissed them off quita lot.

Would expect 6+ points, big fine, don't think they'll give custodial sentence maybe probation or something.

You may get done for going through a red light. Depends on if it can be argued unsafe to stop?

As for failure to stop...
Quote:
The prosecution must make the court sure of the following for you to be found guilty of an offence: 1. That a reportable accident occurred on a public road; and 2. That you failed to stop at all; or 3. That you stopped but you then failed to give your name and address (and that of the owner if it is different) to someone with reasonable grounds for requesting them. A reportable accident is one in which
Arrow injury is caused to another person,
Arrow damage is caused to any other vehicle,
Arrow injury is caused to an animal outside your vehicle, or
Arrow damage is caused to roadside property.

So reading that <link here>, if just your mirrors were damaged and no other vehicle and no one was injured then you didn't fail to stop after an accident. Could be that you failed to stop at all (2) or did you stop, then jump the lights?

<edit>
Arrow Failing to stop after an accident is 5-10 points + £5000 fine.
Arrow Failing to comply with traffic lights signals is 3 points (don't know what the fine is).

An alibi might be a good thing around about now.

However, if you are going to report the bike 'stolen' you should have done it much nearer the time and got lots of other details sorted out.

Are you sure you actually nocked them off? Car mirros tend to be pretty good at the whole springy thing. I have very occasionaly nocked another vehicles mirrors; usually a Van on a trail bike, always stopped and waved sorry and not had a problem.

Running from the scene is kind of like someone that knocks your bike over while on the side stand and leaves it, not a very nice thing to happen to you.

Think you're probably just going to have to sit and wait; get a good solictor etc.
