Sajid Javid to become new home secretary after Rudd falls on her sword over immigration targets.

Fell on her sword backwards, I suspect.

Javid's an interesting choice. Like the MunchKhan, his dad was a bus driver. Unlike Khan, he doesn't seem to be a pissing, moaning, chippy protest-midget with a track record of sticking up for rights for snackbaristas.

Instead he concentrated on fleecing the proles out of their hard earned, and he's a moderate Eurosceptic, and pro-business.

I didn't much like his bandwagoning on the Windrush fake-news, but even if he's an open borders, mass migration advocate, then that makes him no worse than May and Rudd. I suspect he's a fair bit smarterer and more competent than either of them.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, and the best bit is that mpd72 will be apoplectic. Dance!

Counterpoint: perhaps we should get that box ticked now while #ntdwi isn't yet the dominant demographic.

Better Javid than the MunchKhan.

Don't encourage them. But I agree, when it hits 51% the word moderate will mean nothing.

Really, over what, putting a token in charge of uncontrolled immigration? Nah, can't be any worse than the failed efforts so far.

The Tories are absolutely hilarious with the shallow salesm tactics and crappy product placements they use. I saw recently a TV news show interview between some sort of famous black rapper talking about the usual London problems, no doubt something relating to Grenfell, and of course, of course, the representative the Tories sent on their behalf was a completely unknown black guy, because hey if the skin colour matches, they score a point in diversity bingo*!

(*When the new cabinet was revealed a few months ago outside Downing Street one journalist shouted something to that effect as well).

I thought I'd hit peak cynic, but I actually had to have it pointed out to me that Javid's appointment might be a desperate gambit to appeal to A Certain Demographic in the local elections.

Not that I think that'll work. He's a Non Practising Certain Demographic who married a Not A Certain Demographic woman whom he actually seems to love and respect.

That sort of moderate modern model of integration is exactly what won't appeal to divisive grievance merchants. Me, I'm keeping an open mind. He flubbed Brexit and can zip it over the Windrush fake-news, but his background does appear to be actually proper Thatcherite conservative. That'll be novel.
