So it always happened, but not to me or any other basic rate tax payers?

I'm 25 and it's plain as day what a shit heap old Labour are, there is a reason the tories have been in power for a majority of the time for the last century.
Labour - if it's too good to be true, it usually is |
That's the thing it depends who you ask. I remember how poor everyone was coming off the backend of a Thatcher government (then with Major), how things got better under Labour, then shite again when the Tories got back in with help from bitch Clegg.
I realise you also have to factor in recessions but we're meant to be in the 'good' times now and it's still shit. Most people I know said it was shit the whole time under Thatcher as well, it seems to be a few yuppies that enjoyed it, and it's interesting how civil unrest flares up under the Tories.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to say Labour were just appeasing gimmedats, but they seem to be the difference between working to enjoy your life, and under the Tories working just to survive. Still not voting though |

I'm not talking about higher rate tax payers though am I? I'm talking about one man band, lower rate payers like me, who never had to pay tax on dividends on a personal level and are now having to pay tax twice on them.
Which bit do you need the help of an adult with?
My tax bill, which was already at a similar level to a basic rate PAYE earner earning the same amount, has increased by over £1,000 a year as my earnings have gone down, this is an increase of over 25% on my total tax bill. This hardly hit the news, yet an £80 increase in NI payments for the self employed, hit national news and protests got the decision reversed.
It's not rocket science. This government are removing so many people from paying tax, then picking the easy targets like me, to make up for the growing benefits bill of non tax paying immigrants, 16 hour part time workers and bone idle scum.
Isn't it something like less than 50% of working age adults actually paying income tax now? This is why, at a time of record tax take and record employment, we can't afford basic services fit for purpose.
The standard of living is dropping rapidly for middle income and average earners. Some, like people in my situation, are getting royally fecked up the arse by this government. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

[facts]A one-man band Ltd Co director paying the basic rate of tax only is better off in 2017/18 than he was in 2016/17 [/facts]
Here's an example:
2016/17 wrote: |
YourCo Ltd revenue: £42,000
Salary: (£8,060)
YourCo Ltd profit before tax: £33,940
CT rate: 20% [for 2016/17]
CT: £6,788
YourCo Ltd profit after tax: £27,152
Dividend tax allowance: (£5,000)
Total taxable dividend: £22,152
Total taxable income: £30,212
Personal allowance: (£11,000) [for 2016/17]
Dividend subject to further tax: £19,212
Tax rate on dividends in excess of the allowance: 7.5%
Tax on dividend: £1,441
Total net take-home pay: £8,060 [salary] + £27,152 [dividends] - £1,441 [additional tax on dividends] = £33,771

Happy to help In this example, you are £370 better off in 17/18 than you were in 16/17. You'll be even better off in 2020/21 when they reduce the CT rate to 17% and keep increasing the personal allowance and NI thresholds

WTF? Not only have you skewed it to the maximum of a basic rate tax payer, your example is between both years since the rules changed and the 2 years we got shafted. You're comparing "shafted" to "shafted ever so slightly differently".
Try 15/16 as the comparison. You know, before we were having to pay tax twice on dividends!
Go on, add in a 15/16 comparison to prove yourself wrong. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

No, hang on. I'm complaining about changes of tax rules which meant that from 15/16 to 16/17 and onwards, as a basic rate tax payer on an average income, I'm being forced to pay over £1,000 more in tax per year.
You're countering this claim by highlighting slight changes since, which take away around £300 of this extra £1,000 plus burden. At the time of this tax change, NI for the self employed was proposed to cost an extra £80 a year. This was so outrageous, that it was all over the news and protests were so great that the government backed down. Nobody batted an eyelid about the one man limited companies who were getting royally arse fucked by HMRC to the tune of over £1,000 on an average lower rate earner, about an extra 25% or so on their tax bill.
Go on, run your little calculations with the real figures. Try £35,000 as a gross revenue figure for 15/16, BEFORE 7.5% personal tax was added to dividends over £5K/£2K and compare it to when the figure for 17/18, with tax applied over £2K.
You can argue all you like, but you're wrong. People like me are now being taxed at around 25% more than we were a couple of years ago. January this year was the deadline to pay the first year of personal tax with this little cash cow added from HMRC. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.
