Well, thanks for all the 125 advice (and some of the other advice) which I'll continue to look at; saw a YBR 125 parked last week, it was looked at and declared "not too bad" (!), 'though it was in ropey condition, so there's some scope for variety including others mentioned above it seems.

Yes, insurance is difficult. With the current bike (Kisbee), it wasn't worth going comprehensive for a £600 machine, TPO was only a couple of pounds cheaper than TPFT, so the latter won. Next year, assuming no disasters, it looks as though similar insurance will be about £380 (for 125cc). Similar machine/cost considerations may or may not apply, that's a job to work out at the time.

Ah! I'm afraid it will be some months until buying a 125 is considered. At the moment, it's just "look at whatever bikes are parked up", like that YBR 125.

I don't mind work on a gen'wine 2-hand bargain, as it's educational, but I do not want to get into the position I'm in with the current scooter where something needs to be done and no-one in the whole world including vendor support staff seems to know how to do it (this thread: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=324508 ).

It looks as though something that works will be £800 +/-.

Edit: "FTW"?

Buy Jap by all means but I do see a lot of tall guys top heavy on YBR's cos they have been told to avoid rubbish! Lexmoto Adrenaline - Chinese bikes are ok. Ride what fits I say.

That's good advice, you've gotta be comfortable on any bike to ride properly and enjoy it.
The Pulse Adrenaline SM has been around for a long time now in its different models, and seems to have a good reputation in the world of budget 125's. Some people use the wheels and front end for budget KMX supermoto conversions too!
