Lexmoto Tornado not running after heavy rain

Hi new to the motorbike world and have bought a second hand lexmoto Tornado 125cc for my daughter. We recently had heavy rain and the bike cut out on my daughter and failed to restart. We had it collected by a garage and they said it had water in the fuel tank and they drained it and charged us for half hours labour. They said it’s a common fault with Chinese scooters when I asked how I could sort it if it happened again. It happened again 2 days later. We have drained the fuel ourseleves and let it run until it ran out of fuel. There was a little water in there. We filled it up with more petrol in the hope that we had sorted the problem. It does start but as soon as you accelerate it cuts out so we haven’t been able to get it to drive anywhere. I have also sprayed any contacts I can see, with wd40 but to be honest I’m conpletely clueless despite searching for two days online and on YouTube. This has helped to keep it running before it cuts out but like I say, the minute you twist the handle, it cuts out. Any ideas? Of course when we sort it this time. We will keep it covered when not in use.

Have you cleaned the carb jets? If your main jet's blocked, when you open the throttle it'll just lean out and die.

If that doesn't help, it may well be some ignition component is knackered and you're getting a weak spark. With a weak spark it'll fire the lower density mixture at idle, but when you open the throttle the density in the cylinder goes up and the spark can't make it across the plug, the engine doesn't fire, and it'll cut out.

You may want to order a new fuel cap seal (check I've got the model correct). Fuel cap on my arrow was secured with bolts that had an allen head; any old set of allen keys should be enough to remove them and lift out the cap (torque setting wont be that high).

You'll probably want to replace the seal before riding again given that if she got caught in a storm, or even light rain, there's nothing stopping it, I'd imagine, from cutting out mid ride and leaving her at the side of the road.

As well as the cover buy a product called ACF-50 as the scooter will likely develop faults due to riding in bad weather if left unprotected (clean the bike, let it dry, ensure is spotless and then apply acf-50 and leave overnight; apply on most things beside rubber and brake piston; disc etc).

And keep it covered in the meantime and yes I will get that stuff instead of wd40. x
