I was thinking you'd either learn the system and make it work or pack it in and do something else. I wasn't really following the timeline but it seemed to be about a year? It seemed a stupidly long time to be earning £150 a week |

Yeh I don't hate the kid, it is a sad story and can catch people regardless of ethnicity, it could be argued certain sections of society are more prone to this. The game is the issue, and the kid whilst incompetent was really guilty of naivity. |
This is the whole problem with modern UK society. Nobody is ever to blame for their own stupidity. It's societies fault that he couldn't work out income v outgoings.
His ethnicity unfortunately, increases this blame culture for Al Beeb, who saw a story in it. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Quite, I spent many, many hours sitting parked waiting for a job to come in. That was more likely if I was in the city,
in my van and not at home waiting for a call. These firms trade on being POB (Package On Board) within a few mins
of receiving the call from the customer. That can only be the case if they have drivers VERY local to the work and not at
home smoking a spliff and playing xbox. I was only earning when I was POB, the rest of the time I was loitering nearby
my last completed drop waiting for work in that area. It was quite common to have to kill a couple of hours between jobs. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

Hello. Yes, and the point of that story was to condemn those who obliged Jerome to be responsible for his choices
Just the usual socialist clap trap about how dreadful it is that in a rich society, not everybody can be idle and wealthy.
Then to celebrate striking a blow against the corrvpt capitalist system they pop out to expense themselves a soy latte from some 3-job illegal toiling cash in hand for £5 an hour, and tweet about it on their sweatshop iPhones. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

See what a valuable service BCF supplies. If he'd have been coming on here since he was 16, he'd have had a much thicker skin.
Someone would probably have fixed his old bike too, following a suitable period of piss taking. Or bought it off him for about two fiddy. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

They mentioned it in the programme IIRC during the conversation with his brother, without implicitly stating he did. However a pal rode a big bike for years with no license and insurance as a dispatch rider.

So you'd be happy with similar working conditions? It's more about how dreadful it's that in a rich society we still don't pay those at the bottom properly, which in turn generates wealth for others. It's funny how you object to someone benefiting off another persons toil, but not in this situation

i will always have time for people who work hard. regardless of race/gender/age etc. its the lazy benefits i cant stand. |
The programme suggested they were helping, but in the convo at the end between the mum and the bailiffs she says he couldn't even tell her about it I got the feeling they were massaging the narrative a bit.
Anyhoo a lot of parents don't have their kids best interests at heart, and I've seen it often where individuals from unemployed families go out into the world of work, get taken advantage of and end up thoroughly disillusioned with it all. I'm not saying you give people their dream job straight outta school (or college now), but the amount of scams they've had even in my relatively short working life is truly ridiculous (zero hours, unpaid retail work placements, modern apprenticeships* etc.).
*they were unpaid, then the government introduced the apprentice wage and companies (even the NHS) have jumped on it, offering apprenticeships in shit like retail and admin so they can pay people tree fiddy an hour I know of a cleaning company that did the same... an apprenticeship in f**king cleaning! |

Like seriously not sure where that one came from |
It came from the BBC, a wretched hive of champagne socialism.
What was the intent in them throwing so much of our riches at making this particular propaganda piece? It's a very small tragedy on London's very large stage.
For the avoidance of doubt: Kudos to deader for actually trying to work, I have no problem with the effort.
It's more an issue of whether it's rational for Urbanites to even bother any more, and especially whether they should take on debt in order to try to earn, given the over supply of uneducated labour chasing unskilled jobs.
That's sort of what Al Beeb are getting at too, but their slant is that it's so totes unjust that trying isn't enough, and that debt begets debt.
I'm more about accepting the reality that we have an excess of uneducated yoofs chasing unskilled jobs, and that the solution isn't to wish that they'd be brighter, study harder or school, or to magic up spreadsheet riches to gift them with, it's to grasp the nettle of that surplus population problem. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
