And he's laid his life on the line for this country as a coldstream guard, more than some.

If the Queen doesn't mind then it's not really for anyone else to complain.
They are her troops.

I don't give an iota about the Sikh dude wearing his turban, but I did get to wondering why he couldn't simply pop a bearskin on top? I mean, presumably it's not exactly a tight fit inside those things?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikhs_in_the_British_Indian_Army

They've served this country for years. I have no issue at all with Sikhs. I wonder how many of the other lot
would serve this country and possibly give their lives for it rather than against it? A big fat zilch I reckon.
The only reason they might join up is to infiltrate and strike from within, a tactic straight from the instruction manual.

Ditto. They're hardly promoting Sikhs will take over the West unlike the snackbar mob. Sikhs and Gurkhas are the legacy of the empire, have always been loyal subjects and should be respected as such.

It might look a bit out of place in a military parade, but given the level of derangement that is regarded as the must be accepted norm (and you're a neo-nazi racist -ophobe if you say otherwise) in the current_year a turban in the guards is a mere trifle, especially when this is the current British Army TV recruitment campaign

The deal is a ceremony. The garb is theatre.
He looked like a edjit and out of place.
Join the guards wear the dress.
Don't want to wear the dress join some other thing.
Fighting man or not the uniform is part of the team.
Religious nonsense.

Ste for banning everyone but Sikhs.

They deserve an exception, because they are exceptional. And I don't mean that in a wishy-washy all-cultures-are-equal sense. I mean they are better than muslims, better than Hindus, better than Scotch.

They're part of the solution, not the problem.

You all miss the point.
The trooping of the colour is a ceremony/theatre/big show.

The trick does not work if there is an odd one out within the ranks.
As often said, even if one guard puts a foot wrong it can have an effect throughout.

It's someone so festooned by his own importance who demands to be treated different from the 'rank and file'.
It's at the heart of the PC Problem. Some things have to be the way they are.
If you cannot wear the bloody outfit properly then do not join the guards.

He could be the greatest person/human in the world but it ruined the show for me.

Even the horses have to look more or less the same for the illusion to be complete.

Also have to disagree. I'd take a regiment of Sikhs over a regiment of neds who didn't know what to do when they left school any day of the week.

Sikhs have worn turbans in British infantry regiments for so long it practically IS tradition.

I wonder if it has been for longer than guardsmen have been wearing stolen French bearskins (203 years)?

The Trooping of the Colours goes waaaaaay back well before Sikhs served the British Armed forces. (17th century.)

The rules are being bent for religious reasons.
A certain belief in sky fairies.

England was at one time the ruler of vast swathes of Frogland so maybe the Puddocks borrowed the fashion from the English.
I'll agree to cede some ground then and record that I saw something out of place on parade.
Just coz it's different diznae make it right.

1) Well Fired Guardsmen.

2) Humans are carried by horses and not normally vice versa.

I hope that helps.

Unyielding uniformity in appearance, mission and obeyance is surely the intended message so whilst inclusiveness is admirable I see no reason why the soldier couldn't have worn a bear skin. Putting his special sky-fairy's supposed demands above those of his chosen task doesn't make a lot of sense to me.[/i]

And bearskin hats were stolen off Napoleons Imperial Guard after Waterloo (1815). So should guardsmen really be parading about wearing enemy uniform?
